I'll bet those butchers..er..I mean doctors were so disappointed. Awww shucks! He revived. All that money slipped out of their hands. Quite a racket actually. The organs are "donated" free, but the surgeons make tons of money from them.

Parents actually doing what parents should do, what is going on here?

We all put far too much faith in what doctors tell us. Good for them.

^^^^^^^^^^^THIS - especially where the NHS is concerned. They just want to off you at the best of times.

In the UK it's now assumed that by default you're an organ donor.

This can lead to knife-happy doctors and manufactured 'DNR' notes.

This is why my Living Will expressly forbids any harvesting of my organs.

And this is where the single payer healthcare nuts want to take us. This incident makes a better argument against it than anyone ever could.

Exactly. And, you know what else? It's extremely difficult to sue a single payer healthcare provider for clin neg that's cosy with the government.

That's part of the reason why I am NOT an organ donor. Don't get me wrong, I would much prefer my organs be useful to help save another human... but in this day and age it's almost like the doc's are eager to commercialize your body so they can make a boatload off whomever needs the organ.

I was going to say what others here already have. I'm not an organ donor for just that reason...the organs could start coming out before I'm truly dead. There have been too many instances of people being declared dead who turn out to not be to trust this particular system.

Shit like this is the reason on why I am not a donor. I feel like If your on the donor list they look at you more of a commodity they can use instead of a human life to save. Anon

medicine is a science.. science = hypothesis= educated guess.. the people, including this man that survive have only God to thank, I am sure the posters posting here agree.
I agree with you for one, and my whole family does too.

The doctors told us that my father would be dead after five
minutes of being without total life-support. (Head of cardiology)

After they withdrew everything, he said "thank-you"!
"That's a hundred percent better"!

He wanted me to get him a cold beer and to turn the Viking's
game on.

Do you have any idea how it sounded for me to call all our
relatives and to tell him that my dad was doing great, drinking
a beer and watching the football game, when they were all
crying and preparing for a funeral?

Think about it!

RE: “Brain Dead” Man Recovers Before Doctors Can Take His Organs
This is from 2000, has anything changed?

Could the clinically dead feel pain?
<http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2000/08/22/166001.htm>

"Fears that brain-dead patients having their organs removed for donation
could still feel pain have sparked calls for use of anaesthetics....

...But the controversy deepened last year when British public watchdog, the
Intensive Care Society, published guidelines which stated that analgesia
was not necessary in this situation. The Department of Health has agreed
with this assessment.

Anaesthetists have observed that patients' pulse and blood pressure shoot
up when the first cut is made. Theatre staff are often distressed when
clinically dead patients move and wriggle about, to the point where it is
impossible to operate.

The editorial claimed that studies showed there was some level of activity
in brain cells, even when the brain stem (which connects the brain to the
spine) was not active. However, the guidelines said that dead patients do
not require analgesia or sedation. It added that dead people did not
require anaesthesia, and if a person was not dead, they should not be
having their organs taken away."
