Explorer Philip Goodeve-Docker freezes to death on second day of trek across Greenland - UK

A novice polar explorer from London froze to death and two colleagues were left critically ill after being caught in a massive storm as they trekked across the Arctic.
...
It is thought their tent was blown onto a glacier. They radioed for help but a helicopter was unable to reach them until the following day. Mr Goodeve-Docker is thought to have died overnight as temperatures plunged to -35C.

Return to civilization / end of part one

Weather over the past weeks was a lot colder than I experienced on previous occasions, with the coldest nights getting close to -40 C. At this temperature staying warm at night requires 3 layers of clothing, a very warm sleeping bag, two mattresses, and a warm (boiling) water bottle. And then there was the storm... Impressive doesn't quite cover it.

[May 7, 2013] So, while another strong storm has cancelled C-130 flights in and out of Dye-2 and forced the ACT13 crew to once again batten down the hatches,

Australian astronaut Phil Chapman predicted a mini ice age.
By Robert On May 15, 2013

“Sorry to ruin the fun, but an ice age cometh,” shouts the headlin

Here are excerpts from that article, published in 2008:

“Disconcerting as it may be to true believers in global warming, the average temperature on Earth has remained steady or slowly declined during the past decade, despite the continued increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide, and now the global temperature is falling precipitously,” wrote Chapman.

The reason? Because “there is a close correlation between variations in the sunspot cycle and Earth’s climate. The previous time a cycle was delayed like (today) was in the Dalton Minimum, an especially cold period that lasted several decades from 1790.

“Northern winters became ferocious: in particular, the rout of Napoleon’s Grand Army during the retreat from Moscow in 1812 was at least partly due to the lack of sunspots.”

“It is time to put aside the global warming dogma, at least to begin contingency planning about what to do if we are moving into another little ice age, similar to the one that lasted from 1100 to 1850.

“There is no doubt that the next little ice age would be much worse than the previous one and much more harmful than anything warming may do. There are many more people now and we have become dependent on a few temperate agricultural areas, especially in the US and Canada.

Millions will starve if we do nothing to prepare

“Global warming would increase agricultural output, but global cooling will decrease it. Millions will starve if we do nothing to prepare for it (such as planning changes in agriculture to compensate), and millions more will die from cold-related diseases.

“The Greenland and Antarctic ice cores and other evidence show that for the past several million years, severe glaciation has almost always afflicted our planet.

“The bleak truth is that, under normal conditions, most of North America and Europe are buried under about 1.5km of ice.

“The bleak truth is that, under normal conditions, most of North America and Europe are buried under about 1.5km of ice.

“The bleak truth is that, under normal conditions, most of North America and Europe are buried under about 1.5km of ice. This bitterly frigid climate is interrupted occasionally by brief warm interglacials, typically lasting less than 10,000 years.

“The interglacial we have enjoyed throughout recorded human history, called the Holocene, began 11,000 years ago, so the ice is overdue.
so the ice is overdue.
so the ice is overdue.

We also know that glaciation can occur quickly: the required decline in global temperature is about 12C and it can happen in 20 years.

“By then, most of the advanced nations would have ceased to exist, vanishing under the ice, and the rest of the world would be faced with a catastrophe beyond imagining.

“Once the glaciation starts, it will last 1000 centuries, an incomprehensible stretch of time.

“Once the glaciation starts, it will last 1000 centuries, an incomprehensible stretch of time.

“Those urging action to curb global warming need to take off the blinkers and give some thought to what we should do if we are facing global cooling instead.

THEY ARE LYING MURDERING SCUM GENOCIDERS.

“It will be difficult for people to face the truth when their reputations, careers, government grants or hopes for social change depend on global warming, but the fate of civilization may be at stake.

Phil Chapman is a geophysicist and astronautical engineer who lives in San Francisco. He was the first Australian to become a NASA astronaut.

.glaciological studies are not able to provide a reliable reconstruction of CO2 concentrations in the ancient atmosphere.
...Formation of CO2 clathrates starts in the ice sheets at about 200 meter depth, and that of O2 and N2 at 600 to 1000 meters. This leads to depletion of CO2 in the gas trapped in the ice sheets. This is why the records of CO2 concentration in the gas inclusions from deep polar ice show the values lower than in the contemporary atmosphere, even for the epochs when the global surface temperature was higher than now.
... An ad hoc assumption, not supported by any factual evidence[3, 9], solved the problem: the average age of air was arbitrary decreed to be exactly 83 years younger than the ice in which it was trapped...The notion of low pre-industrial CO2 atmospheric level, based on such poor knowledge, became a widely accepted Holy Grail of climate warming models.

The cooling will start next year and could last 200 to 250 years.
“Evidently, solar activity is on the decrease,” explained scientist Yuri Nagovitsyn. “The 11-year cycle doesn’t bring about considerable climate change – only 1-2%. The impact of the 200-year cycle is greater – up to 50%. In this respect, we could be in for a cooling period that lasts 200-250 years.

over the Earth’s history CO2 have meandered over a broad range of 180 ppm to as high as 7000 ppm. At 150 life really starts having problems. During the ice ages we were dangerously low, below 200 ppm. At 400 ppm we now at least have a small buffer against extinction.
