Whatever our imaginations come up with the truth of it is far more pedestrian, far more bound to the laws of physics. In Star Trek a phasar can be used to heat up a rock that keeps you warm all night. The reality if we dared to show it would show the phaser attached to a battery the size of a house!

The only way reality can catch up with imagination is if we learn how to create fusion.

Won't happen in my view. More importantly, shouldn't happen, we are not responsible enough.
