Those are far different than this solar scenario. There's a 12% chance of a "megastorm" (meaning there is a 88%chance it won't happen), and there is a 100% chance of hurricanes, earthquakes, and blizzards hitting somewhere. See the difference?

Why are so many unprepared? Because it seems people can't seem to learn the lesson the first time something happens. It's just a human nature thing, people sometimes tend to make mistakes over and over again.

And sure, Murphy's law states anything bad that can happen will happen, but I will take my chance with the numbers in this case (88 over 12).

Murphy's law is that he's watching waiting for you to slip up so that he can exploit your mistake or expedite it.

Well on all those events the probability of something happening is probably low too if you apply all the variables such as loction ect, yet they still happen. Insurance companies can give you the probability of just about any event imaginable in any location.
