He's not yet three... but Sherwyn Sarabi can already read, count to 200, list all the countries of the world and use an iPad.

The gifted toddler has won a place at a top local school even though he is not due to enter reception class for two more years.

His mum Amanda, 35, said yesterday: “We were in the GP’s office and Sherwyn was looking at a map on the wall and started pointing out the various countries.

“The doctor was amazed and said he’d never seen anything like it.

"A couple of psychologists have both said he is gifted. I’d like him to start school a little earlier if possible.

"I am struggling to find ways to engage him. He just always wants to learn something new.”

The two-year-old also knows how volcanoes and shooting stars work, and can describe all major body organs.

If he's that smart & shows no signs of schizophrenia they should ask him about time perception. He may be the genetic jump to intelligence without the delayed time perception.

My daughter was just as bright until we had to take her in for mandatory vaccinations.

Now she gets an attitude, doesn't want to read or count. She used to sing her ABC's at the age of 1 and a half years, now she just wants to argue.

I swear they are doing this to our children, dumbing them down.

Maybe she is just aware enough already to realize that singing her ABCs reading and counting because it makes the adults around her ooh and ahh is the actual 'dumbing down' 1dunno1

Yeah, between the vaccines and the fluoride it is unusual for children to exhibit advanced intellectual traits...

I get a little queasy when I see parents of very bright children showing them off to the public like they are some strange and special little oddity. The last thing these children need is to have everyone telling them that they are soooo special. They get the idea they are better than other kids and lose their patience for regular people - in short, they become very arrogant.

The parents then put them in accelerated schooling and they graduate and go to college at 15. They are normally very protected and never get the knocks that real people experience growing up. They also don't make many true friends and their social skills lag.
Invariably, they end up in a math/science field - usually at the university level. They don't relate to their students or their colleagues. They suffer depression when they realize that other bright people eventually catch up to them and are just as productive as they are. And there they sit, without a support system other than their overly protective cheerleader mother, while everyone else around avoids them.

I was often criticized for not advancing my son, choosing instead to keep him with his class (except the school did their own thing and created a full-time gifted academic program just for him) . But still, he was able to learn along with his class and make life-long friends. He was able to participate in sports, band, and other activities with his classmates. He didn’t really try as much as I would have liked in high school because he didn’t want to get perfect grades and stand out. But he did well enough to get into his preference of engineering schools. He now finds it fun to outperform those other little snots, especially some of the Asian kids who spent their entire lives studying and can’t believe some Caucasian long-haired party-hearty frat boy who plays in an alternative band wipes their butts on tests and in robotics competitions. I just sit back and smile and realize that contrary to what “experts” wanted me to do, I did the right thing.
