Super brilliant children will never fit in with normal society.

Both a plus and a minus.

Hopefully the child will be encouraged to question and question. Instead of being told to "sit down, be quiet and don't interrupt."

Raw skills, sure. But a big part of something like this is parents in his face teaching 24/7....you don't just come out of the womb reading the globe. His parent(s) are shoving it down his throat. Showing up for a school competition speaks volumes about the parental motives here.

Read the article. He teached it al himself.

I read it and did not see where it said he taught himself. Even if it did say that I would be skeptical of it. And the parents have entered him in a school competition, notified the press. Hmmm...

I'll expect them to be making the talk show circuit soon. I'll bet you that kid is in "school" more hours a day than your average K-12 kid.

I'm sure he's bright but he's been worked with...alot.

Very possible.

BUT - I know from experience --- they don't learn and process like normal people. I read to my son since he was tiny. Nap time. Sleep time. I never taught him to read. By the time he turned 4 he was reading. Not Dick and Jane books. He read mostly non-fiction.

I had to make sure no newspapers were laying around. He'd pick them up and start reading about SanDiego murders and crimes.

I pity the poor child. He's being trained like a monkey. He has a capacity to retain and recall information and is being exploited.

Where's Japan.. GOOD BOY!
Where's Russia... GOOD BOY!
Where's China. GOOD BOY!
Where's Chile... GOOD BOY!
Where's Australia... GOOD BOY!
Where's India... GOOD BOY!

Its not as if the knowledge is coming out of the blue. Sure send him to school... just because he has a mental capacity doesn't mean he has the emotional or physical ability to run with his peer. Good-bye childhood. The child doesn't even have a choice. He'll just keep seeking his parents approval. GOOD BOY!

Yes. These children seem to learn as if through osmosis...
Many think their children are genius, but if they only learn what it taught, they might be gifted by not genius.

Neither one of those things needs to be "solved." It just needs to be possible to put it in people's hands.

Exactly.

This is about the parents' egos not the child.

-shrug- Testing is free via the system.

More important than scores - I think - is figuring out how every child best learns. Some thru touch. Some thru watching. (Howard Gardener's Multiple Intelligences.)

Then use that info - to better teach children.
