I just bought a new under and over , the only problem is you only have 2 shots .
Ive just seen on youtube , drilled and rifled inserts that take center fire ammo like .357 . If they did a brass cased set that wouldn't scratch the barrel , I would get a set .

Awesome, Over & Under are my favorite guns.

2 shots and a quick reload is all you need.

I have 6 combat tours all in close quarter. Only on TV do you need a bazillion rounds.

I use butt sleeves for extra rounds

RE: .40 cal. vs. 12 Gauge
The S&W 44-40 is a nice rifle, short in length and not to heavy. good lever action, not hard on the knuckles like a 30.30 as the 44 needs not to move the action to eject the spent round. the bang is not too deafening as the ears don't ring to long, the recoil is firm but not jolting, the slugg is a slow hard hitting round were some skill is needed in judgeing range and movement, but once hit it has dropping power that doesn't blow too big a chunk out of the target.

As for costs of rounds, the 44 is an easy to reload round, needing just caps, powder and lead to reload rounds. the shot gun needs a few more things for its rounds.

the 44 is a proven hunter protector firearm, with a proud history, its rounds wen't into the pistol as well as the rifle, just think how deaf they were, What you sayin there mister??? Blam Blam !! wild west.

The little big horn was won from the rapid fire of the 44, it had a shorter range but was well abouve rate of fire and reload. Causing the Winchester to become a most versatile firearm for then, and even now.

You can have your big bang sticks, but on a grand shoot weekend, the fun will be in the beer and BBQ after wards, when we show targets and talk trash about sore sholders and not hitting sides of barns.

5 stars for your thread.

I own a 44.40 chuckle
