A strong quake has struck New Caledonia's Loyalty Islands this evening.

According to the US Geological Survey, it happened at 8:55pm, measured at 7.1, at a depth of 26.5km. It was initially reported at a depth of 10km, but has since been revised.

I never said a mega earthquake [in my post] though - that was the italian scientist. As I've mentioned earlier, my EQ predictions are for roughly 7 pointers. [I can try to dig out the post where I say this]. I'd let you know if it was a mega earthquake [like hinting at running away and stuff].

As a side-note though, I was expecting a 7.5 pointer, so I was wrong in that. For some reason I always judge the numbers higher than they are.

[If your argument is I posted in a mega earthquake thread, I've got an earlier post where it's a normal earthquake thread where I also say it's the 10th]

And, duh, I was referring to the 10th Arch. I said the 10th in my post.
