I think medical spending has to be so huge, due to the extremely high costs of EVERYTHING that has to do with health care, and the baby boomers getting old, mega spending on health care.

The figures and methods are deceiving.

Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are trust funds. You pay into them separate from income tax. While the payouts may be considered "Government Spending" the funds do not come from taxes and are not counted in the general budget.

Military Spending is 49% of the Federal Budget.
