With over 8 million people mysteriously disappearing from the US workforce during President Barack Obama's first term, experts are working on a number of theories to explain this riddle, the most commonly mentioned reason being alien abductions occurring throughout the US on an extraordinarily massive scale.

According to a recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report, the number of people disappearing from the US workforce rose from 80.5 million when the president took office in 2009 to the current 89 million, while unemployment has remained steady near 8-9%. In other words, 8.5 million people have simply vanished in a way that can't be explained by the usual retirement or disability trends.

"Since we can't blame it on the economy, the only conceivable explanation is that someone is taking people out of the labor market by force," said Malcolm Lenivie, noted economist for the DC-based Center for Keynesian Economics. "The President has spent $6 trillion in stimulus packages and all our studies indicate that his plan is working, so something else must be at play."

Or people have Ascended and aren't being trapped up in the labor for money model anymore and have voluntarily left the work force.

And where are they now?
The little children of Stonehenge
And what would they say to us?
If we were here... tonight

They've already been bankrupted and lost what they had to give up and have no major bills beyond housing and food, and they just get absorbed into the background 'underground' economy... If it happened to me, After shedding all the debts etc, I'd probably end up running my own backyard auto repair business for CASH... No records, no taxes, no worries.

If I really applied myself I could maybe have a higher standard of living that way than I do now playing by the rules.

As far as the system was concerned, I'd have vanished into the 'nacht und nebel' as the old German saying goes... The night and the fog...

Disappearing from the workforce. But I''ll bet the IRS can still find them.

Time is a great teacher, unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

IRS ain't gonna find me. Government already took everything I own, not live in a remote cabin in the woods fixing apple computers for cash. If they try to find me I have 3 large dogs and a lot of lead for em.

A more plausible explanation: They found work that pays under the table.

And so what of it? Is that oft-repeated LIBERAL ploy supposed to be an excuse for just rolling over, giving up and sucking the Federal DICK?

Better to die on one's feet, than live on one's knees.

The only thing that is extraordinary is the jump to the conclusion about aliens and secret government abductions. Most of the responders to this thread have made you aware of the nature of the job market that you should have realised, and comparing job losses to unemployment statistics and then suggesting those people have all disappeared is silly. Experts huh? nah.

Or, heres a thought...

In 2011, 54 million people were on SSI.
In 2012, 61 million people were on SSI.

That is an increase of 7 million.

That's where they all went OP.
