The wife of former U.S. Representative Lee Hamilton from Indiana died Saturday after she was run over by her own car, Bloomington, Ind., police told NBC News.

Police said 82-year-old Nancy Hamilton arrived in the parking lot of a veterinary clinic with a pet Saturday around 4:15 p.m., but her car was not shifted into park. As Hamilton walked behind the vehicle to retrieve her pet from the passenger side of the car, the car rolled backward, striking and running her over.

Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters said Hamilton was alone at the time, and he believes the incident to be entirely accidental.

Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer told NBC News Hamilton died from blunt force trauma to the head and suffered chest injuries. She was taken to the Indiana University Health Center in Bloomington where she died hours later.

sounds suspicious. a car in nuetral has enough force to kill a person? was the car parked on a steep incline? if it was, it would have started rolling back as soon as it was shifted into nuetral. but it didnt. the car waited until the 82yo woman was behind it before rolling back and running its wheels over her head and chest. suspicious.

Certainly plausible, she didn't die at the scene and a car will usually start rolling gently but can pickup speed quickly. Probably wouldn't even need much speed to do the damage either, doesn't take much to kill the elderly - look at how many take a simple fall and end up dying days later.

i think her body would have stopped the car. the car couldnt possibly have enough force to completely roll over her like a speed bump. how is she able to have trauma on her head AND chest? did she hit her head on the pavement then the tire hit her chest? so the car knocked her over and she fell down parallel to the car? otherwise the tire would have struck her legs first and would have stopped rolling and wouldnt have gotten to her chest.
if the tire struck her head, her head would have stopped the car from rolling further and again, her chest wouldnt have been struck.

oh man, was just out and about with my 81 year old mother-in-law, meeting she and my husband for lunch, then she and I went to put gas in her car. In the next bay on the other side of the pump, there was this 25 something year old cute little sprite of a kid trying to push his stalled older model Bronco out of the way. So I went over to help him get it moving to where he could pop the clutch and start the engine.

After several tries of pushing it forward, then backwards, the second time I was pushing at the back, my 81 year old mother-in-law comes over to help push as well...! lol

and that thought crossed my mind..... the danger of having the car rolling back over us for some odd reason.

Cars are heavy...frail elderly are not!
