cow $91 effing bucks
Went into the store just to pick up a few things. Got a few more than a few things, but all in all about a handbasket and a half of groceries. I filled my handbasket and went back for a cart, but only put a few things in there like bread and a pack of chicken.

But seriously, WTF? I almost choked when she told me the total. Then I looked over the slip and all my coupons and everything were registered. f*ckin hell man. Start of the month and my goose is already cooked.

So, I was tired and starved by the time I got home tonight. Dinner was blueberry waffles with sunny-side eggs on top. Ate 4 of them bitches.

-Avoid the big chain stores.

-Stay away from name brand if you can maintain quality.

-(If you buy junk food) Don't buy it.

-Drink more water. Yeah the taste isn't as good but you will spend less.

You think thats bad check out the quantity of the items you bought-they are shrinking-for instance a box of cereal used to be 16 ounces, now it's 14 ounces.

I ran into this recently too with lawnmowers, of all things. For the last 14 years I have bought this specific model lawn mower from Sears- with a 22inch cut and a 190 cc engine.

I just bought a new one last week. Same model. Now it has a 21" cut and the engine size is 140cc-to say I wasn't a happy camper is an understatement...

It's the way they are hiding real inflation...

If you can take it try shopping at Aldi. You get quite a bit for cheap.

I am finding it cheaper to eat a local diner than to buy groceries. Find one near you and do the specials. If it isn't near you forget as the cost of getting there will kill you.

My only choices for groceries are Stop & Shop, sometimes Price Chopper and Dollar Tree, maybe Shop-Rite or Hannaford's, and once in a blue moon Wallyworld.

Name brand, meh, some things, sometimes, depends. Like mayo. I am a real Hellman's guy, but I can get away with generic for some uses. But tonight I had a coupon for $1.48!!!

I do buy some junk food. Mostly for convenience. $1 frozen pizzas, Chefboyardee, and I got some Hostess apple pies to take to class.

I drink water almost exclusively. I keep some tea bags on hand at home. Other than that, juice or soda once in a while to go with some liquor. But even then I just usually mix with fresh iced tea.

I have to go tomorrow and get some stuff. But yeah, I did pick up a loaf of bread the other day and it was $3.

A pack of pasta that used to be .99 is now 1.99. I noticed that.

I've noticed that at times too. Sometimes it is definitely cheaper to buy a dinner than all the ingredients to make it. Things like a sub anyways.

I remember a few years ago I flipped when I hit $50 for a quick basket run through the store. I remember when $20 was plenty to fill a handbasket.

The GENERIC mac n cheese here is $2.19 a box. I like to mix it with diced red and green peppers and serve a meat on the side, or maybe as a topper like a little chili or something.

In 1900 people spent a third to a half of their income on food. Those times may be coming again.

RE: $91 effing bucks
It's rigged to cost about the same.

Buying cheap toxic groceries.

Buying value menu fast food.

You can make healthy food that's cheap, but it takes time. Beans and lentils etc, gotta set up a rotation.

But I can't say I felt a lot healthier eating that stuff. It's not really healthy until you add the fresh flavors (ingredients) that make it taste good.

chuckle

Taco Bueno bean burritos make me feel like crap immediately, and for a few hours.

Home made ones give you rickets or berry berry after a few months.

chuckle

Add tomatoes, onions, cilantro, etc, that pot of beans starts getting expensive.
