I think there's a bit of an oversight here... maybe you can help me understand.

What does employment or occupation have to do with work ethic?

Well, let's see... not a DAMN thing.

Your work ethic is something you apply across ALL tasks, and all daily activities. Work ethic isn't about how you put in your 40 a week, it's about how you approach and dispatch with the necessary tasks in life, from your job, through your yardwork, to maintaining your recreational boat. It's how you approach life, and the pride and care you take in whatever you decide to apply yourself to.

Anyone who can suggest that a good work ethic is equivalent to being a "slave" is simply someone who is lazy and unmotivated, and trying to excuse it by differentiating their laziness from a good strong drive. Some of the people I know with the best work ethic are unemployed due to the economy, or odd jobbers to make ends meet. Conversely, some of the highest placed bodies in my organization are lazy delegators, with connections.

Lie to yourself to justify your sloth all you want, but don't try to convince other people so you can feel better :) Lazy is lazy, and your confusion of terminology can't change that.

We spend our whole lives working, often doing jobs which are destructive to the environment, only to pay excessive taxes with only just enough money left over to survive...

We can't just refuse to work under their "System" because they control the laws and simply have anyone who refuses to conform either thrown in jail or put in an institution, and labeled insane. The truth is, they are the insane ones. There is ONLY One Way to stop these people, and that is to prove their evil "System" wrong (which they are already doing by destroying the planet) ...
