I believe it. Ugh - so glad I left that place. I no longer have to watch nightly news stories about home invasion robberies where I live now.

I thought that too until I moved to SW AZ. It's nothing but a festering dust boil. If you enjoy constant heat, dust storms to rival those in the middle east, the color beige and brown everywhere, very few trees, almost no grass or flowers anywhere, tons of trailer trash, a dollar tree store on every street corner, huge drug problems, and illegals streaming through your neighborhood, with the cops chasing them at all hours, by all means, feel free to move there. If you are like the desert for its beauty, move to some place like Sedona.
LoL.

That may be true, but my friend goes down there to visit in-laws. Last year he was there for a week and brought home a photo of a giant spider (tarantula or wolf spider or something) sitting on his car one morning. His in-laws religiously check for scorpions in the house too.
Forget that noise.

Live up the road about six hours from Phoenix... Have lived in the desert for 25 years and would not trade for very many places... Felt just like OP when I left NW PA 25 years ago... Never wanted to see that shithole again and I haven't...

Glad you are happy there. About that no sticky humidity thing, just wait. You left out floods and the handful of morons will try to drive through every summer/fall and mad crazy winds from nowhere. A good pseudo-fun money maker is to scour the salt river after rafting season.

Use a blacklight then you will easily see them. If you spray to kill their food, you won't have them. Some of the pest control companies say they spray for scorpions, it doesn't do any good because only squashing them really kills them. If anyone who lives in the Valley wants the name of one of the better pest control companies who uses natural ingredients PM me.

Phoenix? Keep your big city. You can make fun of us here in Arkansas all you want, but I have plenty of acres, a swimming pool, paid off property and house, and have to see very few people.
I will keep my rural environment, thanks very much.

We now have 6 1/2 acres with a pond, a creek, a barn and a workshop for just a little more than we paid for our house in one of the nicer suburbs of Phoenix. The deer come across in the morning and at night, the geese and swans swim in the pond, and the turtles, frogs and blue gills are also in the pond.
People that grew up around here laugh at us because we lock our cars and the doors for the house. In the winter time or when it's hot in the summer, people leave their cars running when they go into a convenience store and the kids around here don't lock their bikes.
Now compare that to the nice suburb we lived in when in Phoenix, my husband's 4 wheel drive truck was stolen from the driveway (by coyotes - people that transport illegals across the border), there were home invasions and almost weekly arrests for pedophiles in the area around our kids' daycare. Those are just the tip of the iceberg. Not even mentioning the drive-by shootings on the freeways or gangs boxing you at stoplights on surface streets to carjack you.
Yep, I like the nice, quiet rural life in Northern Indiana.

30 some years ago I lived in Phoenix for a couple years. The Salt river didn't have any water in it, then when it did it was full of topless babes floating down on inner-tubes.
Over all, I liked it. You could have a cookout on New Year's, ride your motorcycle all year round, and no shoveling snow. Your car will not rust there. On the other hand, the dashboard melts or cracks so you have to leave the window down. In the worst of summer, you feel trapped inside during the day. It's so damn hot nobody hangs around outside much at all. I saw a near riot breakout over traffic at a huge 5 way intersection on Grand Avenue. You let a green light go by, they will kick your ass. The city sprawls for miles, it's huge by area. Oh, and there are black widow spiders in the shed. You miss the clouds after a while.
I also lived in Ohio many years, and while it does suck, it isn't the smell. The extremes of heat and humidity in summer and froze up and busted in winter, plus the goldenrod, mold and tree pollen, bugs, endless stripmalls and burger joints, plus the rotting power grids and roads are why it sucks ass. Every time it stormed the power would go out. Houses are hard to maintain, cars rot fast, it gets wet and stays that way.
I'd pick Arizona of the two, but Flagstaff would be my choice of towns.
