I spent a month bagging them as an AC when I first came here and realized they were just victims of their conditioning.

I thought if I could make them angry enough they might just wake up and do the inevitable. It just made them angry.

The thing is nearly every American I have meet has been the nicest people [tourists] generous and big hearted.

I couldn't work out how they could let their government run amok in the world and continue funding them.

That patriotic conditioning is powerful stuff. If you are told you have the best country in the world you are not inclined to do anything to stop them from doing anything.

The slow squeeze is on in the USA. The industrialists have relocated to China.
The government is not keeping infrastructure maintained well.
That smells bad like the US is going to be sacrificed and they don't want to spend any more money than necessary to maintain the illusion.
Paint over the rust, don't fix it.

The whole world is praying for them to wake up, no-one else has the power to stop their government and prevent world war.

And as a serious answer to Shakey's premise I'll say this:
America the empire was no better or worse than any other hegemony (including that of the English).
It's collapse though will be far greater than most.
Rome's collapse is probably comparable in many ways, but I think Americas will be worse.
The dark ages perhaps though could be viewed as a period of renewal as people threw off the shackles of their oppressive overlords.

America is GREAT! but some of the people (a very small amount of them) make it seem like it sucks.

SOLUTION is to make it better, to work at this yourself in whatever small or large way presents itself.

Maybe that is just pointing out that it sucks, or something as small as helping someone out who is a neighbor that is struggling.

Because what comes around, goes around KARMA.

I can't speak for all Americans; all I can speak for would be myself (and maybe in some off-hand way other Americans). I'm glad you've had positive experiences with other Unites States folks, AC. I've had the fortunate experience to visit a few foreign countries on our DoD's dime. I had a fairly good standard of living growing up middle class in the middle class.
This thread was really directed at the American audience, but it's regrettably (in many ways) a pretty small one on LoP.
