Not 100% certain, but there are ways to convert .tar to .apk using ArcConvert:
http://archivconvert.sourceforge.net/

Here is a similar question to yours asked:
http://www.justanswer.com/software/61rr8...-file.html

Seems like the above link should help you in your quest. Seems pretty straight-forward to me, I think.

What exactly are you trying to convert into apk, if you don't mind me asking?

Hmm, it doesnt give the option of converting the tar to an apk.

Did you download and install ArcConvert?

It says on the site that it can convert TAR to APK...? Maybe I missed something?

Yes I did but there doesnt seem to be an option for APK

I find that I have a bad tendency of derailing threads if the Android OS is involved - which is not intentional by any means on my end, so I figured I would make a LoP Android thread for questions/comments/concerns/ideas with Android.

It has turned into a hobby of mine, and while I don't claim to know everything there is to know about it, I would consider myself at least versed in the area. So, if you'd like to root your Android device, but don't really know where to start, install CyanogenMod, delete bloatware, etc., I'll do my best to assist you.

I don't know if thread will gain traction, but I hope it does - I hate seeing people with unrooted devices suffering through the lag that bloatware creates, not being able to use their device to its full potential.

And yes, I know that people claim "Google is NSA/CIA," etc.

There is/was controversy surrounding CarrierIQ on just about every smartphone out there - Android, Blackberry, and iPhone. You can remove this from your device: Check out these sites for some help:

http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/how-...-20111215/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthre...?t=1373967

XDA-Developers and Rootzwiki are very good places to start, with a very helpful community. Do a search for your device over at these sites:

http://www.xda-developers.com
http://www.rootzwiki.com

Anyway, moving on, I heard around about D making LoP Tapatalk friendly: is it still just an idea, or a work-in-progress?

Another question: What devices are LoPpers packin? As for me, I have the HP Touchpad running CM9 (ICS)/WebOS and the LG Optimus S running CM9(ICS).

gutted mate, managed to unlock my bootloader and root my phone last weekend and got Cyanogen Mod 9 onto my Wildfire S, It booted up into that android dude on the skateboard with the blue vortex and didn't go any further. Tissue
I re flashed it back to original rom after i got a virus on my computer from downloading stuff. I only wanted to root my phone so I could install a program with supersu to capture my screen to my pc so I could watch my free sky sports on the big screen instead of squinting at my mobile lol....
Went a bit far methinks Lmao
Might have another go sometime if I get that bored...... chuckle

Sounds to me that you got stuck in a boot-loop. If I were you, next time you're feeling froggy, boot into recovery and format your /system (or, just do a factory reset in recovery) before flashing the CM9 Rom. A factory reset will make you lose you /data, but it will eliminate a lot of variables in the flashing. Is it an offical CM9 nightly, or an unoffical ROM?

Clearing dalvik cache helps in some instances, as well.

It was an unofficial romA4 ICS I think, I tried the unofficial but it was older then the rom I have already installed and I didn't know how to get round it. I really want to get rid of all this orange shit they bundle with the phone, especially the shitty boot screen logo.....

RE: LoP Android Thread
I recently manually updated/cooked my 3d graphics drivers. I gained a whole lot of new extensions, and absolutely no graphics errors in logcat but in the process I broke hardware mp4 rendering. The problem probably lies somewhere in opencore, but libopencore_common.so has a lot of hidden dependancy links to be able to cook something up to fix it. Pretty much in uncharted territory.. hard to find uber geeks in this stuff.

To the guy that wants to play around decompiling/compiling jar/apk files, check out apktool.

What I would really like to know is the various library links/dependancies for each. Some of them are obvious and easy to figure out, some of them are not so obvious. Trying to find out any heavy solid info on this is near to impossible.

That's a whole new can of worms I have yet to open... I feel bad for not being able to even point you in the right direction about this.

After some searching, I found these sites:

Chances are, you've already seen them, but I figured I would at least TRY to get you some help.

I have a Toshiba Thrive, ExciteLE and the Excite10.
I haven't rooted any of them but will start with the Thrive once it receives the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Favorite app is the IP Cam Viewer. I use it for my IP cameras at home and have over 1,000 cams programmed into it from around the world.

I've been getting spammed with airpush adds and identified which apps where doing this with the Lookout Ad Network Detector app. The online gambling apps are notorious for this and some others.

My desire is to become an app developer.

Oh, very nice! You should post a tutorial here for others interested in it. I usually use Google Music for streaming music, but no such luck when it comes to videos, etc.

Yea been through all that lol, I had the correct official rom, but it was older than my current rom. I kept getting errors when trying to flash, I would fix the error and get another error, after about three or four errors and about six hours straight working on it I got fed up and flashed the unofficial rom which didn't boot, so I gave up and put the original rom back on.....

I don't suppose you remember what the error messages were, do you?

Anyway, looks like ICS is rather unstable at the moment for the Wildfire, but I read that WildChild ROM is good (although non-ICS):

Back to my earlier question, though, are you CDMA/GSM?

Are you still rooted, or did you un-root when you went back to stock?

I was contemplating the thrive before I bought my TP - it looked like a decent tablet to me.

I was real hesitant to buy my TP at first seeing as how WebOS came stock on it, but I do not regret my decision at all, now. Since I like to tinker, my TP fits my niche, perfectly.

Are you rooted, or just running stock/un-rooted?
