Any "Family Treetards" here, other than me?
I have been tracing and documenting my family heritage since the early 1990's covering a vast amount of my ancestors, although my native american heritage has slowed me down, I have been able to trace my direct european blood to my 29th great grandfather, Sir Guillaume de Vatteville,(1022-1087).

He is on the "List of Knights Accompanying William the Conqueror on his Invasion of England, 1066". http://www.three-peaks.net/1066.htm

In my quest I have discovered great, President Theodore Roosevelt, (my 3rd cousin) and some not so great, former VP Dick Cheney, 9th cousin), relatives.

Here who has traced their roots and how far have you gone back? If anyone would like help with their tree, I'll give it a go for you. Peace Heartflowers

My family also goes back to Charlemagne but then so do most Europeans

This makes me kin to the British royal family and Obama

I'm a direct descendant of Stukeley Westcott who was one of the founding settlers of Providence Rhode Island along with Roger Williams. He was fundamental in starting the first Baptist church in the Americas.

His daughter married Benedict Arnold who became governor of Rhode Island and who was the great-great grandfather of the traitor Benedict Arnold whose line I do not descend from.

Same here. I and other members of my family have been researching off and on since the mid-90s. My biggest accomplishment is that I've managed to located all 16 of my great-great-grandparents, but I've also traced my family name back to its country of origin pre-1700, found a handful of new ancestors beyond the great-greats, and "corrected" a few errors (that is, found conflicting name spellings in various records for various entries).

As for the royalty, apparently it only takes one to link you to basically everybody. We found one, so yeah, technically I'm distantly related to all those famous folks too.

Any of you watch "Who do you think you Are"? It's better to rent the DVD...skip past all the crap and ancestry . com ads (even the ones during the show segments). The few times I've tried to watch it on TV, I just about shot the TV set. It's like, "Okay, Don Cheadle is related to Paul Revere's next-door-neighbor...GET ON WITH IT!"

Me too. Although my common ancestor with the General is my 8th great grandfather Captain Thomas Carter who is Robert E. Lee's great great grandfather. I guess that makes us distant cousins. Cheers

I'm an 7th generation relative of "Half-a - Head" Throckton.. Early pioneer of the Northwest Terratories and notoriously lousy land surveyor. He gained his famous name after receiving a near fatal head wound from a particularly large beaver with a penchant for survival.Anon

I traced my ancestors to a saint in 400 AD Germany.
The Golden Legend says this saint is a cousin of christ.
