Just to clarify, suggest a brand name that Walmart might carry, something you might be interested in, cuz i don't shop there for things like that.
You can buy an Apple iPod there for $185
Normally, they're $200

Buy the way. I flipping cannot stand to walk into a Sears or Best Buy. I can be pissed off in five seconds flat with their pressure sales.
Actually they bought out another company tho for the life of me i cant remember the name. I travel down to tiger regularly, less than an hour away.
I think the name started with a C, of the company they bought.
CompUSA I believe, via a bankruptcy sale.

whoDunIt Wrote:Rager, i consider myself a true geek, perhaps a bit older but i would never, ever, ever walk into a BestBunk. Id rather have my dick chopped off by my lawn mower!
Wallyworld will also price match any item from any ad or website, with the exception of their own internet prices for locations other than your store.
For 99% of my electronics purchases i choose the interwebs, tigerdirect, geeks.com, and newegg. Mostly tiger..

I haven't had a bad experience at our local Best Buy. I hardly shop there, though, because it is crazy expensive.

Tiger Direct bought Comp USA from the Mexicans. Dont know if they've been bought out, but the Comp USA retail stores are fantastic... like superstores with literally everything on display.
I had banned Tiger Direct for years but I think they've finally got their act together as a mail order retailer. Still not as good as Newegg though. And dont even think about buying a Systemax PC.

Same with Best Buy and all the others. Could be same name and model # but different components. Buy direct from manufacturer, especially electronics.

Unless the Ipod was specifically marked as refurbished, i'd say it's a good deal. The markup is pretty small in the big stores, they don't really mind if they only make a buck on the Ipod cuz you might pick up some Rustsumore tools while you're there.

No, at worst the same model in a different colour scheme, like silver instead of black. They don't run different lines, and most manufacturers don't sell directly to the public. That f*cks up their dealer agreements.

Everything I liked was half off at TigerDirect.com, but every single item was refurbished instead of new too.

eclipsed Wrote:someone here remembers that article just recently about all electronics being made today are PURPOSELY made to NOT last.
some kind of evaluation chart of the components life is used and it resembles a BATHTUB.
the gyst was electronics are purposely made as cheaply as possible specifically so they will break right after the warranty ends.
So true!!!
I have had way too many electronics do just that. I have two Toshiba laptops both died within days of the end of the warranty. One Sony TV did the same.

Fry's Electronics in the bay area is by far the best electronics store I've ever been to.

For high end gaming computers this is common. Processor, Video card etc. will all be lower spec. Most manufacturers sell online.

Computer electronics, yes indeed. Audio and video components are sold fully assembled, to retailers, for the most part, with some exceptions, such as Cambridge Audio. :)

Ahh, yea me old memory is coming back. Anyway I kinda like tiger direct. I'd rather order than shop on my feet. I usually go to Worst buy, and find what I need, then leave and order online.
