banana Awesome Tornado pics from this weekend!
My brother-in-law was storm chasing this weekend in Kansas and Oklahoma. He has been doing this for nine years (makes trips to go chase about once each spring) and he had never seen a tornado.

This weekend finally paid off! Here are a few of his amazing pics. He got within a half-mile of one tornado near Langley, KS at about 4pm on Saturday.

Ok, I see what you are talking about but those just look like water droplets on the lens to me.

Afterall, it was windy and raining!

Reminds me of growing up. Running to the basement. I got so many tornado stories but the best was when we were sitting in high school psychology and one of the student says "uh there's a tornado across the river" so the Teacher calls the Principle and we then proceeded to the basement.

RE: Awesome Tornado pics from this weekend!
The classic 'wizard of Oz' tornadoes such as in the last pic are signs of the storm racing ahead of the 'hook', and as so the tornado gets cut-off from its inflow and gradually dissipates into a rope funnel before losing strength and dying off completely.

The 'stove pipe'/wedge tornados are the ones in the mature stage and can 'cycle' in their lifetimes..these are what spawn the EF4/EF5 destructive funnels.

Saying that however rope-funnels can be dangerous in their own right as the winds at the area of circulation are still rotating at 120mph, even if no funnel is visible to the ground.
