What would I go through if I quit cold turkey?
I don't abuse Xanax but I have been on them 3 times a day for the past 4 years. 1mg each. 3mg per day under a doctors script.

PLEASE, let this be you "Bible" for stopping Benzos! Most doctors are absolutely clueless.

I concur. And, that is the single best resource out there for coming off benzos. Great post!

On the opposite extreme....almost everyone I know claims to have add and is hooked on amphetamines. Many take xanax also.

Sometimes I think the doctors are out to kill us.

Withdrawal Intensity & Severity Ranking of drugs

1) Benzos
2) Opioids
3) Stimulants
4) Nicotine (Its addiction is far higher than its withdrawal syndrome, addiction and withdrawal are separate. the craving is immense, but its not as ultra severe illness like opioid withdrawal.)

I Smoke cigarettes, I was prescribed benzos for years and i was smart enough to know to use them very sparingly at a very low dose. I knew this 10 years ago.

Anotherwords, Even if cigarettes are tied for first place in addiction / cravings / compulsion, they are not first place in over-all withdrawal syndrome illness.

The only two drugs that can cause death in serious withdrawal.

1.) Benzos

2.) Alcohol

Theres far more GABA receptors & neurons in the brain than there are dopamine or opioid receptors. The whole brain is filled with GABA pathways.

I did not know that was the reason for that. Gracias.

If we could design babies to, for life, have extra healthy GABA, reward pathway dopamine and endorphin pathways, they would grow up very well & happy & very intelligent & functional with far far less adversity in life.

I've been through withdrawal hell a number of times with a variety of psychiatric "medications" but fortunately haven't had to deal with any like benzo's. Most of the ones I ever took only had a really rough period for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the meds. I've had employers on the verge of firing me because they thought I was bullshitting when I had to call in sick often and burn through vacation time for a while when I was basically unable to function because they figured there is no way a prescribed medication could make you feel that way. A lot of people seem to think that way, until they get to experience it firsthand.

i knew it!!! Lmao
