I'd rather have a bug out truck/suv so I can haul more stuff and then get myself a bug out mountain bike in case my vehicle breaks down and I'm forced to leave it behind.

i live in the city and traffic gridlock would be a concern even for a four wheeler,
i never have done it but i have often thought of the motorcycle bugout principle.

i am very familiar with bikes i have ridden since i was 13 but only had one dirt bike in that time that would fit the bill.
it was a kawasaki 350 enduro dirt bike, it would go anywhere, the harley i have right now while nice to look at wouldn't be of too much good if i had to go off road

Whatever you get...make sure it's a four stroke....2 stroke oil will become like gold and a very rare oil......by having a 4 stroke...you increase your options on fueling it....I have a CRF450.....and a couple other bikes for the family....

RE: Best Bugout Motorcycle?
I would recommend one of the dual sport enduro models in the 650 cc size
My personal favorite being a Honda XR650L cause the motor is basically bulletproof and has the most suspension travel

RE: Best Bugout Motorcycle?
Rokon is what you need to get anywhere. It will go where no other bikes will. The reason being is they are 2 wheel drive. And they can pack hundreds of pounds besides you. And the tires are hollow so you can fill them with gas or water. Their top speed is about 35 40 miles and hour. But to get remote and go where others can't the rokon is the way to go bar none.

RE: Best Bugout Motorcycle?
Had a XR650 and a CRF450.....loved 'em both, but that CRF was my favorite in the hare scrambles

How 'bout this 100mpg diesel dual sport .....

It has some impressive specs: 0 to 100 kph (0 to 62 mph) in just 3.75 seconds, a CVT transmission (with 6 programmed "gears"), and an average of about 100 MPG (US) at 90 kph (56 mph). And since the engine is a 800 cc inline 3-cylinder diesel, there's the possibility of using biodiesel.....

Too rich for my blood @$15K Euros.....

My grandfather ran Rokons all over Alaska and the Nor Cal wilderness.....he loved 'em...I've never had the chance to ride one yet.....but I'd sure like to try one up here....

I'm sure partial to those XR650's and CRF 450's though....

Suggestions appreciated..

an older one without a computer/fuel injection. make sure you got a spare voltage regulator, and possibly a coil and a starter too... all kept safe.
