I find this sad on many levels. Profits are down, service quality is down, and everyone intends to replace Best Buy through more direct online shopping which fails to provide jobs and helps to eliminate the middle class. Brick and morter stores have more expense to them and cost more, not only do they have to pay for their buildings, but also their employees, and for a lot of customer theft and shipping and handling. They buy more in bulk but that only helps prices so much. In the end, the consumers are voting to rid all the middle men and then turn around and complain about how bad the job market is and wonder why its hard to make anything.

Blame the shareholders !!

They always want their money for nothing.

I, myself, would prefer to go and shop at a brick and mortar store. Checking out the merchandise beforehand always seemed logical. Best Buy and its shareholders screwed themselves. The consumer just wised up and decided to take their business somewhere else.

In my town we lost Circuit City and CompUSA because of poor corporate management. I will not lose any sleep if Best Buy went the same way. Being ripped off doesn't make me a repeat customer.

I'm wondering who the shareholders are or were, if its like all the other shareholders its the same insurance companies and mutual funds owning and controlling and trashing everything out that goes public.

Because they're all ponzi schemes. If Wall Street didn't control the direction of the marketplace, then the economy would have faired better. This insatiable greed and the hoarding of riches needs to stop. Currencies are supposed to circulate... not sat upon.

Last time I was at one was around 2006. I just needed a simple windows keyboard and wanted to spend about $10.00

No such thing existed at Best Buy. They had gaming key boards, wireless keyboards, ones that lit up and all sorts of other features I did not want. When I asked about getting a simple, standard keyboard the sales associate sneered at me and said to go elsewhere.

So I have gone elsewhere since 2006.

Shopping in an electronic store is not considered shopping to me. Going to the mall is a whole different story.

I bought my Apple computer from Best Buy and the HD broke down within months. I went back to the store to get it fixed, but I didn't have my receipt. Best Buy had absolutely no record on file about my purchase and I had to shell out $200 to get it fixed. When I got the computer home, I realized they installed the HD with no firmware update. Now my HD's fan doesn't have any control and continuously speeds up after 5 or 10 minutes. And the speed increases if I don't put the computer to sleep.

Why didn't you take it to the Apple Store? Seriously, BB can't tell the difference between and apple and an orange

Way back in the day we used to call it Best Borrow as most people have heard - we would buy computers, tvs, cameras, etc and return them within the return period and buy the next greatest thing, over and over. The store is full of people who know less than you do about almost all of it and you get to pay higher prices to boot. Other people mentioned trying out things there before buying online. I don't even do that anymore - just buy the highest rated thing at Amazon and you will be good 99% of the time. Really thought BB would have folded up before circuit city...anytime now. Of course I also thought Radio Shack would have folded a decade or two ago so I am not a reliable source!

Try to get a $5 HDMI cable from there that you can get on Amazon. Don't bother, all $50 and up at Best Buy.

I stop by Best Buy now and then, it's a great place to visit for a hands-on look at equipment I'm considering buying off the Internet.

Best Buy is definitely not the best buy. In fact, they tend to be the most expensive.

problem identified

Buisness owners and store managers suck... they always whine about the weak economy... if people don't have to wade through money to get to their store they can't stay in business... i say let em die...

Meh. If companies don't MAKE what you need, then you need to have brick and mortar stores in order buy the components to make what you need. It's much easier to do when you have access to the physical product and buying online there's the shipping costs (and return shipping if you buy the wrong item). I do component shopping, I rarely buy something that I don't intend to use for something else (except computer cables, nails, and wood screws) unless it's health related (toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper) or entertainment related (dvds).

I'm not saying best buy though; I buy most of my electronic components and cables from a local (primarily) internet based business because I get amazon prices without shipping costs...we have amazon warehouses here too but I don't think you can go pick orders from them. Shopping is "more fun" when it's more problem solving than buying something already done.
