Brain Scans Reveal Dogs’ Thoughts
http://www.disinfo.com/2012/05/brain-sca...rmation%29

Add one more expensive and unnecessary expenditure to the many made by obsessive dog owners: an MRI scan to reveal their innermost thoughts. Via LiveScience:

Fido’s expressive face, including those longing puppy-dog eyes, may lead owners to wonder what exactly is going on in that doggy’s head. Scientists decided to find out, using brain scans to explore the minds of our canine friends.

The researchers, who detailed their findings May 2 in the open-access journal PLoS ONE, were interested in understanding the human-dog relationship from the four-legged perspective.

Brain scans don't reveal thoughts. The title of this thread is utter nonsense.

Well apparently the fMRI can do exactly that.

Here's how it worked. The OP quoted Disinfo.com which used the title
So is the article from Disinfo.com (http://www.disinfo.com/2012/05/brain-sca...rmation%29) which titled the article
"Brain Scans Reveal Dogs’ Thoughts" by an anonymous poster called "Majestic". This provided a link to "Live Science" (http://www.livescience.com/20126-dogs-th...cans.html) which used the same title and claimed that the original data was published May 2 by PLoSOne.
I searched the PLoSOne database for that date using the arguments "dog OR canine OR brain OR scan" and got no relevant hits.

The fact that the first two "citations" were not really news reporting sites and that the second one refreained from providing any titles of the PLoSOne database, along with the rather hokey title, leads me to believe that it is at best disinfo.

I am sure that performing a MRI on a canine's brain while under stimulation , either hand commands or "wanna go for a WALK?", would elicit electrical responses, but as far as "reading the dog's thoughts" -- naah.

Fighting ignorance -- one ignoramus at a time.
