The first season went by before I gave Breaking Bad a chance because it sounded so dark I didn't think I'd like it.

I also didn't see how Malcom in the Middle dad could pull it off.

Boy was I wrong on both counts.

Vince Gilligan is such a talented writer and Bryan Cranston is great.

That first episode blew me away and I have been hooked ever since.

I know it's not going to end well for Walt and I'm holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to fall. I guess it's morbid curiosity to see what exactly ends up being the final nail in the coffin.

I read that the role of Walter White was first offered to John Cusack and Matthew Broderick who both turned it down. I can't imagine either of them doing as well in this role. Vince Gilligan had previously worked with Bryan Cranston on an episode of X-Files and it was Vince who suggested casting Bryan. The executives did not take him seriously at first.

I didn't know that about Cusack or Broderick, guest. Very interesting.
I would have guessed Cranston made a Faustian deal with the devil for this role...he's suburb as Walter White Jhikpghf

Hard to envision anyone but Bryan Cranston playing Water White. I think the success of the show has as much to do with Cranston as it does the writing.

RE: Breaking Bad Season 5
Casting, character development, foreshadowing...pretty much everything is done well for this series. The comedy is spiced in perfectly as well.

Each character does their part well:

Walt - has done a great job of "breaking bad" from pitty to likeable, to unlikeable, back to likeable...sort of

Walt Jr. - nice spice to the situation, good CYA otherwise 16 yr old would have been in the mess or casted unrealistically.

Jesse - nice kid, bad situation, hard not to like, I think he's a girly favorite

Saul - likeable for playing the sleazebag lawyer so well

Hank - arrogant, cocky...but plays it well. Still likeable for some reason.

The wives - hate em mostly, but that's what was intended (i think). They do the job well.

They sometimes cover too much detail in an episode but they really kind of have to to make it last. Kind of like savoring that perfect piece of blackberries pie. You can take small bites and enjoy each one completely before taking the next, or wolf it down bite after bite without enjoying the flavor. And even with this approach there is always excitement in each episode.

RE: Breaking Bad Season 5
This may contain spoilers if you haven't seen the latest Breaking Bad episode yet, but I think it also contains some interesting fodder for conspiracy speculation (i.e. recent Colorado events/false flags and the NWO/Satanic agenda and multi-generational ties and enclaves there).

Quote:Walter White is now fifty-one and in the world of “Breaking Bad,” a full year has passed since his story began....He’s king of the meth business, but Walt has brought his terrifying confidence home to his wife and children. More than any other, this episode calls into question Walt’s mantra that he’s “doing this for our family.” It’s now obvious that he’s driven entirely by ego, resentment and a need to establish his masculinity at home.. So again, Skylar, I hear Colorado is a lovely place to live

I'm always trying to make a connection to the subliminal pretext for some of this shows (and others) symbolism and it relating to the New World Order and that religious mythology. Whenever the 'sun' is brought up, I think that could be a reference to Horus (or a variation on this), and the 'falling' meme (like Lucifer and Satan, etc., falls from 'grace') plays into the NWO storyline as well (Icarus falling after his wings wax melted).
Here's an example of this type of symbolism from FX's Sons of Anarchy next season promo:
