They have Free Healthcare, and yet, they still pay less taxes. Brother said he makes just slightly more per hour there, yet he is bringing home a lot more pay each week.

Lets see, they have free healthcare, guaranteed 13 sickdays a year, plus 4 weeks paid vacation by law.

3 months sabatical after 7 years work, and 6 months after 13 years of work.
1 year off for having a baby. PAID.

Their economy is much stronger, with almost no unemployment.

But socialism sucks huh? Would ruin this country huh?

I have long wanted to move down under for many of the reasons you mentioned. I am beyond tired of realizing the rest of my life is going to be spent making the rich more wealthy as many of my own personal luxuries are being removed. (like a livable wage, TRUE healthcare, and most importantly...a society that still seems to value HUMAN BEINGS as souls as opposed to mindless drones to be controlled)

Yet, from my own research, getting permission to move there is next to impossible... S977

Yeah, he got a job offer from there, and they needed him so they relocated him there.

I am thinking about moving there also, since my field is one of the critically needed fields there, and it shouldn't be hard to get a work visa.

Friends of mine went a couple of years ago - and they're having a shit time. Hard time getting satisfactory work (she's a doctor btw), their pay isn't that much better - and house prices are going through the roof. Same old hamster wheel as far as they're concerned..but it's warmer..normally lol spoke to them last week & they were freezing. I suppose everyone has different experiences.

I agree that it is not "free". I think what he means that it is NOT FOR PROFIT and the risk is spread out evenly over the entire population. Yes, your taxes or however you fund it pay for it, but by making NOT FOR PROFIT and spreading the risk...there you go..."free" healthcare for all.
