ARTICLE FROM LOCAL PAPER:
Some people might think that bikers are burly tough guys, maybe even a little scary, but what some people might not know is that many of their hearts are bigger than their Harleys.
The Top of the Ozarks Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will be holding its second Kids Fun Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16 at Boswell Park. Proceeds from the event will benefit the BACA chapter’s programs to aid victims of child abuse, as well as help children who lack basic needs.
BACA member Gary Tussing said the event, which is free to attend, will offer several games for children, including tug-of-war and mini golf.
In addition to games, Tussing said children are encouraged to bring their bikes to the event for a special bike show. There is no entry fee.
Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.
Tussing also said each child who attends the festival will be given a ribbon. That ribbon is good for a discount on admission on June 16 to the Boswell Aquatic Center.
“It’s really great that the YMCA is doing that for the kids,” he said. “With that ribbon, it will only cost $1 to get into the pool. They are going to take $2 off for every kid who has that ribbon.”
BACA has held the event for the last two years to give kids a day of fun, but it also gives the organization the opportunity to explain its mission to the community.
“We want to show that there are people out there who will help kids, and this is one way of actually showing it,” Tussing said. “Last year’s event was really good.”
While the festival is primarily for kids, there will be lots to see and do for adults.
Tussing said there will be a car and motorcycle show during the event, as well as a silent auction.
