CandyLand Racist?

I HATE to be one of those posters, the type that just asks a question that should be googled, but I cannot find the answer to this.

I Django, when we first learn about Leonardo's character, we find out he operates a plantation called KandieLand. It is a legendary for its cruelty towards the slaves, and its renown is well known among the slaves. The implication being the game CandyLand is somehow racist, or of racist origins.

I CANNOT find anything that spells this out, beyond "ghosts" of old websites and forum posts, all but deleted, explaining the history of the race issue behind CandyLand. It also seems as if CandyLand might have had something to do with German Nazi posters. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot (wo)man. I bookmarked it. I will read it tomorrow. I am trying to watch Django, and post at the same time. (Yes, I am "borrowing" the movie online.) Tarantino often implants many behind the scene known things, such as his involvement with the movie Hostel.

CandyLand Racist?
Ever since the 2010 version of Candy Land came out I can not help but notice the racial undertones in the changes they have made to the game.

First of all, the bottom of the right hand side of the board used to be home to the character 'Mr Mint'. 'Mr Mint' was a pale skinned, red-haired character who has now been replaced by a character named 'The Duke of Swirl'. It's not that far of a stretch to link that to a gentleman of Irish descent being occupied by 'The Duke of Swirl' (Obviously British.)

Even more detestable, they replaced the 'Molasses' monster with a 'Chocolate' Monster. I'm not sure if everybody know the history of the triangular trade, but a bigot might describe it as "Trading molasses for 'Chocolate' colored slaves".

I don't know whats going on over at Hasbro, but I did Nazi this coming.
