My Pet Rat Thread.
(Go to last page first!)

Finally figured out how to hook my camera (I'm new to this technology) up to the computer. What prompted this was finally getting a picture of my cat staring down one of the opossums I feed! Not the best photo, but gives an idea.

Also, a few pics of my rat. A couple look like I flicked the bird at him and he bit me, but those are all just love nips!

Just thought I'd share some cute with the night owls! Crying

This one is Yoda. I had a couple rats named Grishnakh (orc from LOTR), and went on a Roman Emperor kick (Titus, Nero), and Angus...oh yes, Gilgamesh; he was sweet!

My favorite animal, and I will get another as soon as one passes. I had a rat in 1991-93, and then from 2000-2012 continuously! I had my first mouse at eight (1977) and gerbils, hamsters; but as you probably know, there is no substitute for a rat.

Only bad thing, is the lifespan. They get to be almost human, and then they die.

Can't find a decent emoticon/smilie? for sad, and it is sad, but believe me, my rats enjoy about the best life a rat can have!

Ha Ha! Actually, the dry food is specifically put out for the 'possums! My cat won't touch it. I'm weird like that. I will befriend and feed any wild critter that cares to come to my back porch, front yard, backyard, whatever. I probably have at least three 'possums that come, as far as I can judge from the personalities!

The one in the pic is the tame one. I can even touch him before he splits, if I want to. Yes, I gave him a little scritch once!

Well, your daughter could have a future as a children's book illustrator! I once planned to write a book about my experiences with rats, and got through 120 pages or so. It wasn't really going the way I planned, so I set it aside. It was too autobiographical, and needed to be either a fantasy or a children's book. If I were ever to revisit it, well, that picture is actually very eerily like what I had imagined for the cover! I mean, I feel like I have seen it before.

That's the same posture I imagined for the rat, but he was outside looking at the moon!

Their short life is definitely something that makes it hard, it's amazing how much you can love a rat Jhikpghf I lost my female hairless Ele earlier this year and cried for days. She was an absolute sweetheart, was my first pet rat and woosh I had 3 before i knew it. Lmao
We have a houseful of critters too, cats, rats, gerbils, snakes and dogs ...seems someone is always draggin' up someone new (too often it's me) chuckle but they sure bring a lot of joy into our lives, even the ones "just passing thru" like the feral cats we feed, some we see only once but others stick around.Heartflowers

HeartflowersHeartflowers WOW!! She has a lot of talent!! That is a wonderful drawing, she captured an air of curiosity and friendliness, not easy to do.. :)

This is Doomer, you can't really tell but he's miffed at me for repeatedly trying to put a tinfoil hat on him for the pic, so that's his version of the stinkeye Lmao
He's getting older, almost 2 now :( and his fur is turning whiter but his head used to be a light beige in the same pattern as your Yoda.

Doomer looks like he's got personality, and great name, but maybe he's not enough of a doomer for that tinfoil hat! One thing's almost for sure: if something wiped us out, rats would probably make out just fine!

Love 'possums. I'm sure the ones I feed have gotten that dry cat food by now. Bless them. I love the little critters!
