Residents of a Chicago condo whose building will be in the eye of the NATO storm are being warned that they should move out for the weekend or risk being trapped inside by rioters.

The people living in the 17-floor Library Tower building at 520 South State Street were warned in a letter from condo management that "we are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find places to stay during the conference from May 18 through May 21."

NATO summits often attract crowds of thousands of protesters. Currently, a march is planned on Sunday, May 20, from the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park past Library Tower on State Street to McCormick Place.

The condo is hiring two off-duty police officers to provide security; those cops will be armed.

"In the event of a riot or the potential of one near the building, all access doors will be locked including the garage door," the letter continues. "For everyone's safety, we will be instructing anyone in the building to stay in his or her unit."

"I can't just leave my garage whenever I want. They'll be holding us hostage in here," said resident Sebrina Krielinger.

"It's just pretty shocking to see and hear things are going to be scary in your own home," said resident Jeff Lunz. "I think they've got everyone's best interest in mind."

The letter also warns:

"We are strongly recommending that you do not have any guests over during this time including dog walkers and cleaning companies."

"There will be absolutely no deliveries or moves permitted between Friday, May 18 and Monday, May 21."

"The revolving door will be locked on Friday morning."

I assume they want as little as possible people who live in the building to be going in and out during protests. It will make it harder for them for sure to tell the difference who belongs and who doesn't. Esp when they beat the shit out of the protesters, they do not want to piss off people who live in the building...

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed near Western Avenue and Grenshaw Street just before 3 a.m. Sunday on the Near West Side, according to police.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting weren't immediately available from police.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the man as Rudy Correa and said he was pronounced dead at 3:11 a.m. at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Chicago, and Illinois in general, must be on the brink
of bankruptcy and default.

Large scale corporate and private investors probably are
set to lose tremendous amounts of money if the city and state
start to default.

Commercial real-estate, like the former Sears bldg., can't be a very solid investment, can it?

Don't shaky investments tend to implode?

Could be that some good insurance policies will cover
some of these unfortunate, unexpected, and catastrophic losses-
if they do occur. Of course nobody can ever predict such a thing.

Pilots and flight attendants sometimes can see things coming
from a long ways off though. Anon

More like tipping off the well to do to simply avoid the planned doom. Now they have time to upgrade their insurances, copy all their important papers, rent a cottage for a month or book a vacation, and stay out of the way.
