"Chick-fil-A lied to us"
HA HAA

Updated at 4:45 p.m. ET: In a message posted on his website Friday afternoon, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said he spoke personally with Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy, who gave him a statement saying, "There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been."

"I am angry and disgusted," said Rick Garcia, senior policy advisor at advocacy group The Civil Rights Agenda. "Chick-fil-A lied to us and lied to the alderman so that they could open their store in Chicago."

Chick-fil-A is playing a high-stakes game of chicken, as both fans and foes of the food chain question what its new stance on gay rights really means.

RE: "Chick-fil-A lied to us"
Moreno said he was satisfied that the references to political and social issues, along with the pledge to respect all sexual orientations in Chick-fil-A's statements, reflected a commitment to stop funding anti-gay groups. He said the somewhat vague verbiage — same-sex marriage, for instance, is never specifically mentioned as an issue — was actually better in that it implied a more inclusive brand of tolerance on Chick-fil-A's part.

He admitted, though, that relying on the company's own assertions about its donation practices was a bit of a gamble. "I'm not naive," he said, adding that the company could still "try to find a way around" keeping its word.

He didn't have to wait long. On the same day that his press release was dated, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy Tweeted a photo of a WinShape fundraiser called Ride for the Family, which ends Friday. The event's registration page instructed participants to make the $3,500 registration fee payable to the Marriage and Family Foundation, Inc., an organization founded by Dan Cathy's brother. Its headquarters have the same mailing address as Chick-fil-A's.

The whole thing is silly and illegal. Whom a corporation donates to shouldn't be considered in issuing a license to operate. It's simple; if the majority of people disagree with a corp's policies, then they deprive them of assets which make it feasible for them to operate, simple.

Are we supposed to be surprised that a business changes its agenda for money?

Being popular at LOP is like sitting at the "cool table" in a MENTAL HOSPITAL.

I am doing a personal boycott of chik fil a for my personal moral beliefs.

I think they will have problem with people who have NO moral beliefs because no one wants to eat lunch around a bunch of homophobes.

Think about it, if you were to eat lunch at chick fil a, you would look around and assume everyone there is a homophobe. Secondly, at work would you suggest to your co-workers to eat at chik fil a? No matter what your personal beliefs are, you don't want others to assume you are a homophobe.

I think that is their real problem, not the boycott per se.

or maybe you could assume that everyone who still eats at Chickfila understands why FAMILY VALUES are so important. Chickfila still hires gays. there's gay cashier who works at one in my town. he's extremely nice, and when I asked him what he thought about this whole media shebang, he just shrugged and said people are entitled to their opinions and that he didn't want to be one of those obnoxious gays who flaunts his lifestyle in everyone's face with a kiss-in. he said it's all about respect, even if you disagree. this is America after all Heartflowers

Only empty bobble heads think that everyone gives a f*ck about this non issue.

Also this mentality you have that if you eat there you must hate gays is just as bad and of the same mental maturity of ignorant reichwingers.

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy: We Have Made No ‘Concessions’ to Same-Sex Marriage Supporters

On Friday, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said media reports claiming the restaurant chain will no longer give charitable donations to groups that oppose same-sex marriage are untrue.

Cathy issued a statement on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s website, one day after Chick-fil-A released a company statement arguing that their corporate giving has been “mischaracterized” by the media.

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been,” Cathy wrote in his statement.

The controversy flared up this week when a Chicago politician said the company was no longer giving to conservative groups, like Focus on the Family, that oppose same-sex marriage in exchange for being allowing to open up a restaurant in Chicago.

In its statement Thursday, the Georgia-based company said its corporate giving was not intended to “support political or social agendas” but rather to support “programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities.” Read some of the statement below:

Quote: For many months now, Chick-‐fil-‐A’s corporate giving has been mischaracterized. And while our sincere intent has been to remain out of this political and social debate, events from Chicago this week have once again resulted in questions around our giving. For that reason, we want to provide some context and clarity around who we are, what we believe and our priorities in relation to corporate giving.

A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that God has entrusted to us. Because of this commitment, Chick-‐fil-‐A’s giving heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.

As we have stated, the Chick-‐fil-‐A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators.

Quote:Earlier this week, before the statements, Dan Cathy tweeted to celebrate a fundraiser by Chick-fil-A’s primary charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation. The beneficiary? The Marriage and Family Foundation, which was among organizations cited by gay rights groups as opposing same-sex marriage.
