Linux has it's own stuff that will configure fine on a 6 year old lappy me thinks. Take a look on you tube at pear o/s it is a version of debian, like a mac but without all tjhe shit mac does. I am runni9ng it now, it is well cool.

Hardware will be found and will configure itself, this is not windows i repeat this is not windows lmao.

Enjoy you will never go back.

Oh, Thank God. Windows blows. They put that stopper on my drivers a while ago. Everytime I move my computer - I have to reinstall the sound and graphics drivers. Fine until the last, recent move. They probably think I'll buy Windows 7 if I can't fix it.

RE: Computer OS installation Question
I like the idea of running linux off of a usb flash drive- seems to be pretty zippy that way. I like how knoppix lets you create an encrypted file container and then mounts it through loop and then uses that to make the filesystem writeable by using unionfs... most excellent for customizations.

A few others to try are mandriva and pclinuxos.

RE: Computer OS installation Question
You shouldn't be having driver issues with XP. Legit or not. Torrent removeWAT... there are also XP activator hacks all over the net.

Probably "most" versions of Linux will work on that laptop with no issues.

I love physics, it's whats in my morning cup of coffee, it's what keeps the universe from flying apart due to a lack of belief, and it works really well for figuring gas mileage. :-)

There is a lot of money to be made from compiling shit in your room, bunging it all together and sticking someone elses sticker with legit xp on the case of the stack of shit.

beermug RE: Computer OS installation Question
i have tried loads of distros and different window managers,

and cinnamon is the most "professional" looking of the lot imo.

and you can´t go wrong with mint for basic pc usage. (all basics pre installed)

i usually check that the cpu freq scaling/cool n quiet is working after install:

in terminal: go to / , type
cpufreq-info
install the utils, and type cpufreq-info again.

it will show how the prosessor is performing.

To an ubergeek maybe, but for your average user a Mac is a much better option.

The simplest answer is most likely the correct one

All Microsoft software is shit. Bloatware.

MS Windows OS (and IE and Office) is the best example of inferior product with monopolistic powers. Just shit.

LINUX ISNT EVEN AN OS YOU RETARD ITS A KERNEL
AND THE LINUX KERNEL IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF AN INFERIOR PRODUCT

So are you free yet OP?

I love all the microsuck slaves trying to get you back into XP.

Which Microsoft is just about to OBSOLETE on you.

Are you FREE yet OP?

chuckle

Unless you're a gamer, LINUX will set you free.

Plus if you have enough Ram, you can probably get it to virtualbox windoze just fine.
