DeGrasse Tyson - A fascinatingly disturbing thought
An excellent narrative of why aliens may want nothing to do with us.

RE: DeGrasse Tyson - A fascinatingly disturbing thought
To be honest, the comparison of us not communicating with worms or birds, vice versa the advanced aliens not wanting to communicate with us can't be made.

We can't even communicate with the species on our planet, because we don't understand their language, which many species do have.

The advanced aliens would've overcome resolving all kinds of conflicts peacefully on all the levels through their evolution, as in my opinion it's only logical. Therefore benign and compassionate, they'd be geniunely interested in us.

Then why aren't "they" here yet helping us out? Well, I think it's a universal law that true change can only come from within, meaning no outside source/force can change us. We must learn and evolve through our own means, just like the advanced aliens have done themselves.

Plus the advanced aliens would of course be advanced enough to understand and decode our way of communicating, thus they'd communicate with us when the time is right.

I think the key is when we've finally implented free energy technology on our planet, for everybody!

Also, Tyson is focusing on our limitations, why not focus on our potential instead? We haven't hit the roof our potential and his speech it sounded like we had reached our maximum potential, he was jealous of the advanced aliens in his own words.

far too many people want to be fed, and clothed and taken care of cradle to grave. Tyranny will exist as long as sloth and greed are subsidized.

We could take his analogy in a different direction.

He claims that they wouldn't be interested in us, because
we are too primitive for them. I would say, however, that
Tyson is making the point that -WE ARE NOT THE TOP OF THE
FOODCHAIN!

He doesn't want to alarm the innocent kids that might not
be able to handle the truth, but you can't argue that his analogy
is saying that very thing.

We aren't chimps to them. We are cattle. You don't get personally
involved with cattle! (At least you aren't supposed to...there's a law.)

Also, Tyson is making the point that we are the same
"stuff" as the universe.

That was a very, very ancient discovery.
People all used to be animists to one degree or another,
and later developed formal religions out of long astrological
observations which culminated in a formula:

"AS ABOVE SO BELOW."
