Define eternity
Does eternity exist? Is it a just a term to describe an unimaginable amount of time, or is it a real tangible idea. Can eternity ever be understood by the human brain? If the universe has a beginning, will it have an end? If that is the case, then eternity is not real. I believe this is why we fear death. It steps our "selves" outside of the concept of time. A concept that we automatically intertwine with our lives, as natural as the term water is to an ocean. Just my thoughts, would like to hear others.

eternity is no time.

If space and time is intertwined into one single dimension, as physics tell us, then how can one step out of time, without stepping out of the universe all together.

RE: Define eternity
in the earth sense-

it is nature and the wind

the spring flowers that come and the leaves that fall

despite celebrities and figures 'entombed in history'

if you don't revere them they are whispers in a century

and eternity is subject to interpretation

only a lifetime is barely a grain of sand in the big scheme of things

if you never get famous one matters for being alive and continuing the chain of life

RE: Define eternity
If the universe lasts forever, maybe it will just be reformed into a new one and maybe the quantum laws will change as the universe is distorted.

you realize when you sit outside under the stars, that you basically have nothing but eternity over head.

But that is not true, the universe has a beginning point, so there must be some kind of wall or ending to it. A cosmic boundary where the universe ends, or possibly folds in on itself to create this almost what I like to call, "2d video game effect" where you can run in one direction and pop back in the same place you started. In a continuous loop.

Although related, you're confusing eternity with infinity.

yes, but it's the closest thing to 'eternity' that we can experience in this dimension.

Fame is fleeting, and to me it means nothing to be famous when in reality you do just become "entombed" in history. With facebook and internet databases now, the idea of "marking your place in history" has taken on a new meaning. A meaning that unfortunately has become worthless. Maybe the real question I ask, is What is existence in relevance to time and space?

True, but eternity and infinity go hand in hand, one is defining space, one is defining time. To travel the infinity it takes an eternity.
