Tools he seeked after he planned the events. They did not inspire the events. So If I want to kill a lot of people with a car and set up a course with 2 liter plastic bottles and a road did the bottles make me go psycho?

I've played plenty in my life and never been inspired to go out and kill someone or hurt someone because of it.

Not many cases of the millions of other gamers doing that either.

In the few cases where someone goes nuts and tries to blame video games...that person was already f*cked in the head. It could of been a game, a song, or something else they choose to blame for their own actions.

I don't think it ''inspired'' Breivik, but it might have made him more prepared psychologically for the attacks.

I've observed 12 year olds 'brutally beat & sexually assault' characters in games - fully engaging the reptilian brain.

Guns, ho's & drugs (no influence) false meme there, too?

By what, pvping against ppl in virtual reality to shoot unarmed kids and blow up buildings? His inspiration was anti-multiculturalism and right wing bigotry. He was full of hate, if the xbox was never made he would have shot at pop bottles, and probably been a better shooter.

RE: Do violent video games inspire real acts of violence?
How to program and condition people is well known.
The military soldiers play realistic video games to help desensitize them to killing their fellow man and women without hesitation.

We are a product of what we take in and our environment.
If you play violent games you are priming yourself on some level. If you do so deliberately the results are easy to see, if you are just playing the games you don't notice as much.

Whats more is people gain satisfaction from playing video games, there is your positive reinforcement.

Are people who play lots of violent games going to go out and kill people?
No, but they are going to be more prone to reacting violently.
It is subtle but noticeable if you pay attention.

The crime rates in most western countries have been spiked for a reason.

A part of you already knows the answers.
The more you can control yourself the less control your environment has over you.

Well anyway, this is what he said (quotes) :

"Some people dream about sailing around the world, some dream of playing golf. I dreamt of playing World of Warcraft," he told the court.
He insisted the game was very social, "pure entertainment (and) has nothing to do with July 22". He said it was a "hobby" and he decided to play it for a full year so as not to regret leaving a dream unfulfilled.

"I felt it was right to do this to prepare myself mentally to sacrifice my life," he told the court. Breivik also mentioned the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which he said he had used as actual training for the shooting spree.

"It is a war simulator. It gives you an impression of how target systems work," he explained. Calm and co-operative during questioning, Breivik smiled several times while discussing target shooting techniques.

RE: Do violent video games inspire real acts of violence?
Not to stimulate thought or anything but if it was a mining thread there would be a far more edgy question to ask about the case than if a video game was responsible, a religious one. Excuse me for just having to look at the replies and LOL, just a lil. Heartflowers
