Strange you should say that about Betelguese - I've noticed the last year or so that it (and Alderberan) are significantly more 'deep' red...

The last 2-3 months - each time I look at them (Betelguese in particular) I get a very strong feeling that it has already (as you say so nicely) supernovaed - and we are just about to 'see' the results - GRP? There are worse ways to go!

Actually if we "see" the results we'll be okay. But the light from the supernova and the deadly gamma burst will reach here about the same time - so if you see it and don't die, then everything is okay and we can enjoy an amazing light show for a few months. Or else we'll be dead.

This made me think of this verse in Psalms 8:4

"....What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?...."
