The birthrate of most industrial nations is below the self sustaining mark of 2.1 children per family.

I was never in any sense or form, devaluing life or lives of children. There are just too many. Too many most will never even have much of a future. Adoptions, adoptions, adoptions.. hardly happening these days because it has to be multiple copies of your own DNA.

Anyway, ok, overall, your posts are making me feel somewhat better about the situation..

What's stopping me from feeling less uncomfortable though, is just to look at all the waste we're causing. I can't say I'm not a causer myself, seeing as A) there is no disposal service for Recycling in my area, and B) can't help who my power company is, which I think are the two main problems before we get into nitty gritty.. Not all of us are working to become self sufficient. Hey, some of us can't. I just feel that with less people we had less harm. We'll probably have a lesser need for war too. Lesser need to even consider colonising other planets and start taking care of our own people. We're an aging population.. I don't think more people are going to solve anything more than having less people would, only cause more problems.

OK... couple of thoughts...

Considering the extreme cost of all social services in the USA and Europe, why not let the financial burden of having more than 2 kids per couple fall upon the parents exclusively?

No extra food stamps for kid #3 and so on...
No extra welfare payments, no tax deductions, no college grants, etc., after the second child.
If the couple want 3, 4 or 5 rugrats let them pay for it.

Give a one time cash bonus or tax credit, to individuals who have either a vasectomy or tubes tied.

Quit penalizing society as a whole by expecting us to provide services for any children past the magic number of 2.
