Donations pour in to defend Vt. tractor rampage suspect

NEWPORT, Vt. -

Roger Pion, 34, of Newport, has been behind bars since his alleged rampage at the Orleans County Sheriff's Department last week. Pion is accused of using a monster tractor to flatten seven police cruisers. And it's still the talk of the town.

RE: Donations pour in to defend Vt. tractor rampage suspect
Were all 4 cars parked in a row?
The one picture where they are together looks like where
they were dropped off by a tow truck.
But, it still made me curious if he was on his tractor already at
the time of the alleged incident or he departed their company to
get on it to play Monster Truck jams or could someone give me
the scenario as to where these cars were situated?

On behind another in his driveway? He was certain all were unoccupied at the time?

Then the question of insurance and taxpayers arose in the comment section.
Are taxpayers really on the hook for the loss?
Are cruisers insured? And if not, why not, they are exempt from the
law of all motorized vehicles carrying insurance or are "self-insured"
by the state?

Insurance is on the hook.

Then someone should call out the cannard of "taxpayers being on the hook" in the news reports.

Still, no one knows how these cars were situated that he was able to roll over them like that? Side by side? One behind the other?
In a knot at various angles at his farm?

Where was he? He saw them pull in, drives up on his tractor and then no questions asked starts flattening them across the passenger compartments?

Or they were in deep discussion and he says, could you excuse me for a moment jumps in and fires that mother up?

Wouldn't they be shooting at him?

From what I understand, it happened at the police station. The vehicles were not occupied, and no officers were even outside to witness it. I do not know how the vehicles were situated prior to being flattened though.

OK. Then I am starting to smell some fishy about this story altogether.
Thanks.

Per the TV news story, more than half the sheriff's vehicles were destroyed. So the county of Newport, Vermont, Orleans County, has 9, 10, or 11 cruisers for a county with a population of only 27,000, plus an unmarked van? What does the state government (county government is consolidated at state level) think they're doing? This is way way beyond needs. Citizens should be demanding a return to county government from the state and a cut in their taxes with a sharp decrease in the sheriff's department budget and staffing when they have enough time to bully and harass residents.

All the cars had keys in the ignitions (and rifles and shotguns in the boots/trunks) . Pion pulled into the police car park , got out of the tractor , got in every car and placed them in a row , he then drove over them and then reversed over them again . He turned off the tractor and waited to be arrested , he waited 10 minutes and no one came so he decided to drive to the next police station to flatten their cars as well . A person who witnessed all this rang 911 and told the cops what was going on outside , that's when they ran outside and chased him on foot .

Rule of thumb , whatever the US Government says , the OPPOSITE is true !
