This shit ain't good. I've been working in Colo in the high plains next to the Nebraska border and staying in Okalalla Nb after staying one night in the (Bates) super8 ultra dive of a motel in Sterling Colo, but that's another story.

Anyway on to the crops. The corn fields this time of year should be 7 feet tall and green. Everything I have seen is 2 feet and brown and dieing, dead or already plowed under. We are truly f*cked. Think food prices are high now? Get ready, you ain't seen nothing yet. Meat is going to go through the roof. Stock your freezers while you can at the low prices that are present now

Here by me they already called it a loss and mowed it down to grind up into to use as a hay substitute for hogs. 100% loss in my county
but the couple farmers doing soy this year look like they will be ok

RE: Driving through Nebraska, the corn fields are toast
Global food prices are going up as a result of the North American drought and also the Eastern European drought.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/busine...00011.html

Barclays has made as much as half a billion pounds in two years from speculating on food staples such as wheat and soya, prompting allegations that banks are profiting handsomely from the global food crisis.

Barclays is the UK bank with the greatest involvement in food commodity trading and is one of the three biggest global players, along with the US banking giants Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, research from the World Development Movement points out.

Last week the trading giant Glencore was attacked for describing the global food crisis and price rises as a "good" business opportunity.

The extent of Barclays' involvement in food speculation comes to light as new figures from the World Bank show that global food prices hit an all-time high in July, with poor harvests in the US and Russia pushing up the average worldwide cost of staples by an unprecedented 10 per cent in a month.

In the UK the problem has been too much rain and reported as the wettest summer in 100 years. Some crops were damaged earlier in the year as a result of the wet weather although the harvest period has been relatively dry crop yields are down.

Thanks for the first hand reporting Dr.W

If you are still working in the area, can you snap a pic and post it on this thread when you get a chance?

The Daily Mail reported that the USA have 1/6th of its crop destroyed due to drought and that prices all over the world will soar.

Made a round trip from Missouri Ozarks to Wisconsin the weekend if Aug 18. Slightly different routes each way. The corn in Illinois also shot. Much ploughed under. Thousands of bleak acres.

Only corn that looked even half green and decent was small plots in Amish country.
