RE: Drunken Lunatic
our minds justify all kinds of unhealthy shit...

google 'end stage drunk/alcoholic.' it might help with your sense of resolve and commitment to this path. the part about confabulation is especially fun.

also make sure you are flushing your system with good water and eat well. alcohol kills the digestive system and robs you of nutrients.

hm. you've never had to deal with this, have you?

That's what I thought when I saw that post! If I could enjoy in moderation I would, but that does not work for me. I've tried cutting back, but that only works for a few days, then I'm right back to knocking back the better part of a 5th. I made it through yesterday, and will take another swing today, one day at a time for now. I know it will get easier after a few weeks. I'm still not sleeping worth a damn, 2-3 hours a night at best, so not feeling to great this morning. :(

RE: Drunken Lunatic
Day 6, finally feeling some better, the withdrawals were worse than I expected! Nothing at all like quitting pot. I got some good loving, and a good nights sleep last night, and today actually feel like a human being. I have plenty of plans to keep me busy through the weekend, idle hands as it were. I've been getting some exercise, something I have not done in a while. I guess I still have a way to go, but remain confident that I will be fine. Thanks for all the positive input!

RE: Drunken Lunatic
Glad you made it to day 6 without having a seizure. Apparently abrupt stoppage can lead to seizures which is why most detox at clinics. 4 days is the limit I believe.

The physical cravings should also deteriote more rapidly than it does with drugs. Your biggest batlle will be your mind fooling you into believing that in about 30 days you will be able to regulate your drinking. Thinking so will lead you into full mode within a week.

Just remember, you can never drink again. Sincerely, good luck.

P.S. Not trying to be a downer, just trying to give you a heads up.

I have been drinking 2-3 fifths of bourbon, and a 12 pack of beer a week for several years

Thanks! I have some pretty good support, my wife, and my younger brother, he is a rehab counselor at a local hospital. I know I can't drink anymore, and so far I'm good with that. I have so many good things to live for, and a hobby/passion that can't be done while drinking anyway, I'm staying focused on that right now.
I didn't have a seizure, but I sure felt like hell! This whole sobriety thing is a brand new adventure for me, I've never tried it before! :)

RE: Drunken Lunatic
I quit quiting shit.

I am cutting back on the bowls of herp. Making me too tired.

I shall not give beer. Beer is food. It is my reward for surviving each day of drama, doom and general bullshit.

If you drink liquor, then switch to beer. Know your limit and stick to it.

Taking a week off is good. Also do a cleanse or something to change up the body.

My great uncles lived into their 80's and 90's and drank beer every... single... day.

I only smoked when I was drinking, can't stand the damn things otherwise. Quit 'em! Best thing you will ever do for yourself, at least with booze you get the buzz! IMHO

P.S. It is against my basic policy to tell other people what to do, you have to make your own choice of course.

Hugs

Everyone has their 'hobby', I mean if you wasn't drinking/smoking then the money would only be used to buy CDs, a Holiday, Bills, etc. Why save up money to spend on something you don't want when money is there to be spent on something you do.

In US currency $50 is all I would ever spend maximum on alcohol per weekend, this includes either going down to the local or splurging out on a few whiskeys at the store.

I'm not saying you shouldn't drink, I'm saying I shouldn't drink. Alcohol was really starting to be a huge drain on my mind and body, living without it will improve my life, you are free to do as you please, I'm not judging others, I am judging myself.

Hooray for me! I made through the weekend, and actually feel like a human being. Hell I am starting to enjoy this whole "sober" thing. Maybe there is more to life than being drunk after all! Cheer

I'm a traveling man........
