RE: Drunken Lunatic
braver man than I am - not sure I could face the world without feeling sick every morning

in all seriousness, I keep flip-flopping on the issue of quitting the drink myself. I'm pretty moderate in my consumption usually, and stick to beer or wine (liquor really bugs me these days - no tolerance and a really bad hangover even from triple distilled, crystal clear shit)

I do see it draining my meager finances on a regular basis, even more so with an alcoholic mother that I currently support, but the issue for me is that I often do go for a day or two without and don't have issues..and it's a very rare occurrence that I drink more than I can handle. In fact, it's not that common for me to drink more than a 6-er or a 1/2 liter of wine in a night (mixed down, as it were, with weak grape juice)

so yeah, still flip-flopping on the issue myself and it's good to know there are others here making such decisions

RE: Drunken Lunatic
I really feel much better without the stuff. There are still times when I feel something is missing, drinking worked in to my regular routine, for example. I almost always go to the range to practice my shooting on Sunday, after practice i will stop and get beer to drink while I clean guns, and put my gear away, yesterday I did all that stuff without the beer, and it felt "weird", I made through it,but was a littler ansy feeling. I can tough it out, and for me I truly believe it will be worth the effort. I posted earlier that I'm not preaching to others in order to get them to quit, I'm just doing what I think is best for me, and telling the story as I go. This is a release for me, and I appreciate the input from others, I have, until the last 9 days, not gone a day without drinking heavily for years, so this is a grand new adventure for me.

RE: Drunken Lunatic
I've "interrupted" my drinking a couple of times over the years. As you mentioned before that you usually drank a beer while cleaning your weapons, those habits are the hard ones. What helped me was to recognize that antsyness, stop what you're doing and breath. Gotta kick that thought out your head.

But then again, this is coming from someone who has not stopped.

RE: Drunken Lunatic
I've been drinking lots of water, exercising like a maniac, eating healthy, (eating helps break the "cycle" of drinking), and having as much sex as my very supportive and beautiful wife will allow! I think once the physical cravings subside that it is a matter of overcoming the habitual part, once you get used to a new pattern, the you have it whipped. I'm not there yet, I still think about alcohol, and the fact that I have quit using it. I will have won when I don't even think about it. I quit smoking pot 9 years ago, and I don't miss it, or think about smoking it anymore, soon I will be the same way with booze.

If it's not causing you problems in your life then there is no reason to quit, that is not the case for me. I still use tobacco, next is my next project, but I can slay only one demon at a time!

Seek Xanax or Valium, or Ativan or klonopin, if the shakes become unbearable. I mean by way of Doctor. and drink plenty of water

Jptdknpa The shakes, are you kidding?

On a bender, I have been known to drink two bottles of spirits and a case of beer within 24 hours.

Did you read what this guy drinks?
- do that every night for weeks on end and then you'll get some shakes, let me tell you.

Still hanging in there! I thought I was out of the woods, but yesterday was a pretty shaky, bad sorta day, but I made it, and feel pretty good today. I have learned one thing from this so far, I just want to do this once! I really believe that I will succeed now, I am seeing a much better future without booze in the picture. I've lost 12lbs already, that's a plus!

I have been drinking 2-3 fifths of bourbon, and a 12 pack of beer a week for several years. I think this is a teeny bit in excess, don't you think?

No, that's nothing.

I have been wanting to quit, but no friggin way will I ever attempt cold turkey again. I have been trying to cut back on the amount I consume each night though, but even in that there's good days and bad days and that does play into how much I drink. It's really hard to quit addictions...but I have faith that someday I'll be able to quit but for now I'm trying to ween myself off the beer. Good luck OP,sounds like you're doing great thus farHeartflowers

Thank you! And I wish you the very best of success. I have no doubt made the best choice I could possibly have made for myself, it has not been easy, but satisfying nonetheless. I way a ways to travel yet, but "The journey is the reward" Heartflowers

OP - My advice as a guy known to take a drink now and then is to use the money you use to spend on booze for survival preps but don't dwell too much about the increasing doom and gloom news or you'll likely return to your old liquid ways.

I'm a long time "prepper" , that's just plain common sense. If you are prepared there is no need to dwell on doom and gloom. I never drank to deal with stress, I drank because I like the buzzz! I am now learning to appreciate the fact that feeling good, feels good, simple really. I had the first really good nights sleep I've had in weeks last night, and feeling truly rested is a strain off of my mind. If I can continue to get plenty if rest then I will beat this demon much faster than I had dared to hope.
