I would not suggest peat moss, once it dries out, you're plants can be difficult to revive. Sheep and chicken manure is awesome. Call around to your local-ish ranchers. It's easy enough to come by.

Seed starts need to be done in our area next week but we want to move and are currently looking for a horse property rental which could take a few months to find. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make a good sized transportable garden.

We'll plant here just in case nothing comes along in time but don't want to move and be too late to garden somewhere else.

If anyone has any suggestions, that would be much appreciated.

Plant in large pots with casters on the bottom. You can just wheel the pots up/down a ramp into and out of a moving van. You can use any piece of scrap wood for a ramp. Maybe you can even glue the casters on with a very heavy duty type of adhesive. Just an idea...modular/portable garden. Cheer

My potatoes should be up after this weekend's rain. Oh, and you harvest potatoes after the foliage turns brown and dies. *(or earlier)

as long as you make the initial planting in dirt. The rest can be anything...I use lawn clippings.
