Los Caganers first began to make an appearance in Nativity scenes in Catalonia in the late seventeenth century, but didn't really achieve widespread popularity until the nineteenth century. Nowadays they are as important a character as Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus himself. Look carefully at any Nativity scene in Catalonia and you will always find him lurking in the background, replete with the traditional red Catalan hat.

No true Christians would ever conceive of a shitting Santa, this poop thing is an invention of perverted Jews. The Jews love potty humor, even more so, they lover to denigrate Christianity.

Most Catalans are Catholic although there are Jewish ones as well. El Caganer is not Santa. It is a Catholic tradition. Caganers first began to make an appearance in Nativity scenes in Catalonia in the late seventeenth century, but didn't really achieve widespread popularity until the nineteenth century. Nowadays they are as important a character as Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus himself. Look carefully at any Nativity scene in Catalonia and you will always find him lurking in the background, replete with the traditional red Catalan hat.

So what do they actually stand for? Believe it or not, the widely-accepted answer to that question is really a very simple one. Their ''fertilizer'' enriches the earth around them, thus promising a buena cosecha (a good harvest) during the forthcoming year. This translates into a general good omen for the future. Upon purchasing a Caganer, you are told that owning him will bring good luck and prosperity. One thing is certain, they do say much about the Catalan sense of humour.

we cannot overlook the setting of the nativity. it is a healthy wholesome mother in childbirth setting.

i tried, but i can't possibly see any humor or any connection to a good harvest by including the symbol of a shitting man.

can anyone? anyone at all, ever recall in any instance
the positive inclusion of a man shitting at a childbirth?

it is a utterly filthy, disgusting degrading piece of symbolism, catalonia, christian, jew or not!

sounds like something a pedophile would find funny.

if i ever saw someone placing a shitting figure in a nativity scene i'd stop them.

The nativity scene is anything but healthy. Think about it. It's a manger for animals that guess what? They poop. And Mary had a baby there.
