Encounter with soldiers this morning.
So I called in sick to work today. I took my 4 wheeler out for a nice long ride. Where I live is a railroad town. We have a natural "miracle" here in our mountains and a traintrack runs through it. This is a very important spot becuase it is basically the only way into the northeast or out of it by rail there is. Horseshoe Curve. Anyhow the woods surrounding this are very well known by 4 wheeler and dirt bike riders for hill climbs and trails.
I was way up in there today and coming down the path there were two soldiers there, armed. They waved for me to stop, not in any threatening way. So I did. They engaged me in normal conversation, probing a little but nothing intrusive. I (former Army Ranger) acted as if I didnt know much about the military, and asked them if they were in the national guard or something. Even though they were clearly 10th mountain division active duty. They asked if I lived in the area and for how long and whatnot, I asked them what kind of training they were doing. They looked at each other and looked at me dead eyed and said "we arent training." I asked what are you going here then, they said their unit was on patrol in this area because there had been chatter of attacks on the rail system and this area would be crippling to commerce if anything were to happen. I asked what they meant by attacks, by terrorists or somethig I said. They said in a way yes. I asked if I should be worried riding my quad around there, they said no. But to keep an eye open and call the police if I saw anything suspicious, and if I did, not to approach whatever I saw as it would be dangerous.
They never attempted to disarm me even though I was OCing my pistol on a gunbelt. They never asked me for ID or anything and didnt seem concerned that I was there in the first place.
I continued on my ride, from the top of one of the hills I could see an encampment halfway down the hillside. 12 large sized army tents, 4 hummers, 2 apcs, all forest green camo.
I was in this same area last saturday and this stuff was not there. Waiting on a buddy to call me back to see if he saw anything as I know he was there on Tuesday.
I know they were armed with live ammo because the one guy had a SAW and It had live rounds going from the canister into the receiver.
Why they didnt question me further or hold me at gunpoint, or ask me to halt or advance to be recognized....I have no idea. Why they didnt even mention my sidearm or seem to care that I had one I have no idea.....goes against everything I was taught as a soldier on manuevers.
Part of me thinks they were just on a training excercise and just screwing with me. Either way its weird we are hundreds of miles away from 10th ID home base. Not even the same state. Very wierd.

You're white? (they were too?) You were carrying open. You were on a loud ass atv. If you're trying to be a suspicious character.. you sure have a funny way of doing it!

Heartflowers
there was a post about a unit in Colorado a couple weeks ago. I thought it might be in the same vicinity.

Is it me or doesn't that sound like a job for law enforcement? Why is active military doing a police job?

Bump

If society fell apart, we - the people would build a new one. Most people are good at their core, and when we see things that are wrong we work to fix them together. Make friends with your neighbors, get involved with your community - because we will rebuild our lives, our communities, from horrible circumstances we always will.

We dont have police here, If you dial 911 it takes 45 minutes for a state trooper to show up. We take care of our own. There are 2 town cops but they only work in the daytimes writing tickets and dui for the revanue.

The dudes you ran into could've been foreigners trained to sound like locals using Amerikan equipment conveniently supplied by our traitorous leadership. Doubt this?

I wonder I there were any "troops" near Elliot City, MD before the coal train derailment last week?
