It is said that architects still scratch their heads over how the Cheops pyramid could be positioned so close to true north, yet from this information below there could be a simple answer to how the Egyptians were able to do this....

take into consideration....

"The pyramid was used to indicate solstices and equinoxes.

The pyramid is located at 29 degrees, 58 minutes, 51.06 seconds north latitude, and 31 degrees, 9 minutes, and 0.0 seconds east longitude.

Marks Spring Equinox:

Due to the angle of the sides of the pyramid vs. its latitude, it casts no shadow at noon during the spring equinox.

Aligned True North:

The Great Pyramid is the most accurately aligned structure in existence and faces true north with only 3/60th of a degree of error. The position of the North Pole moves over time and the pyramid was probably exactly aligned at one time."

alrighty...now if you were to stick a squared wooden post into the ground on the Spring Equinox, then as the sun rises in the east....

you'll need to then turn the post so that one of the sides of the stake is facing flush with the sun, and the post is casting a shadow directly behind itself. You now have established exact East and West directions, so you'll want to tie twine around your post with a loose noose type slip knot, then stretch it out directly in front (east), and then behind (west) which creates a 'plumb line' which you can use to draw East and west lines into the dirt as long as your twine.

Do the same with the North and South sides of the square post.

then at high noon on the Spring equinox.... you'll see that your stake will not cast a shadow at all. You have then found the zero point position of the sun's position to the earth and your post will have captured perfect directional positioning.

Each corner of the post is now an established corner alignment for the foundation of your pyramid...so with your twine in it's loose noose around the post, you'll want to pull your twine off in a plumb line from each corner, out as far as you want...then trace the same line in the dirt. When you've done this with all four corners....you can then use twine to connect each outer corner point with a straight line established with your twine's plumb line.

and voila.

would be fun to try with a small mock up about 10 feet in diameter in your back yard.

Still indicates that civilizations of antiquity had far superior knowledge (and probably wisdom too as to not be destroyed by such knowledge) to what we have today. Even if aliens didn't directly aid in building them, it still leaves a huge mystery as to what was the actual body of knowledge of those days.

I think they were smart enough not to keep the recipe for the atom bomb in the stone carvings that were in the town center if you catch my drift.
