^^^ I let this low-income clinic put those plastic coatings on my 8 yrs old's molars. I feel kind of bad about this, I was sort of coerced into it and hadn't had time to do any research. Do you or anyone else know if this is bad stuff or not?

My kids never had a fluoride toothpaste. My 8 yr old had one tiny cavity in a baby tooth. To be honest she is not even a good brusher, but she isn't allowed sweet drinks and she eats a fairly healthy diet which I think is the most important thing for healthy teeth even above brushing them.

I was also given fluoride drops as a child and got brown spots and brittle teeth too. I also ended up with 10 mercury fillings after that, so to me fluoride does more harm than good in any amount. Thankfully I was able to get all the fillings replaced 10 yrs ago with resin.

If this is the one that the school offers..My husband and I called the company...and they didn't even know what was in it or anything..so she said she would have to look into it and call us back...well it took awhile for them to call us back and she said she found some info on it..she told us that it did in fact have fluoride in it..so we didn't let our son do it. If I were you I would call the company that you got this done at and ask them your questions..or if you don't have the number call a dentist and ask if that could be removed somehow.

Thanks, I'll call the clinic and try to find out. I am mad at myself for allowing them to do it. I already had disputes with this clinic before about x-rays and mercury fillings. They wanted to x-ray my 3 yr old too many times. I told them she had already had too much radiation exposure in her young life, as she's had rotavirus and a broken arm so she got a lot of abdominal and arm x-rays. They wanted to give her x-rays everytime we went in every 6 months. I finally stopped taking her. I took her to a family friend in another country who is a dentist while we were visiting there and he did not want to x-ray her, even without knowing my feelings about it. Then I got into a debate with the dentist about resin v. silver amalgams. In the end he basically said "I'll make this exception for you because you are a pain in the ass but if you get another dentist next time, they may not be so accomodating". Haha, they love me there. Add to that I refused the fluoride treatment, and they are used to compliant poor people who are just happy to have free dental for their kids, and yeah, I am not their fave person. Still, I put doing what is best for my kids above being accepted/liked by people.

Good for you! There needs to be more people like you that stand up for what they believe in. I do this with my son's school about a lot of things. They think I'm crazy and don't like me one bit...I have explained things to them and why I believe what I'm doing is right.
Don't blame yourself for doing this. Take if for what it is and do the best you can. I'm sure you will.

Thanks for the support! What some people might see as a sign of ignorance and neglect is actually a very involved, caring parent who has done a lot research and is determined to make the best decisions for her children's health. There are more and more parents doing the same. I am a lot less nervous now than when I first started out. You learn to take the condescending attitudes because you already know you've made the right choice based on a lot of research and not emotions or ignorance.

This is one of the reasons why my family and I make our own toothpaste. We also don't drink faucet water because of this. We make sure we buy bottled water that has No Fluoride. I worked for a dentist and he even said fluoride is horrible..Yet they don't like to admit it.

http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/arc...read=77399

Fluoride has never been scientifically documented to cause cancer in anybody.

Fluoride is a chemical. Chemicals do NOT cause cancer. To cause cancer they have to have the capacity to get into the cell nucleus without killing the cell and then altering the DNA so that the cell converts into a cancer cell. That has never happened in any scientific experiment.

What Flouride appears to do, like so many other chemicals, is hamper the body in its immune response to cancer cells. The Body usually attacks a cancer cell as being abnormal. When the immune system is suppressed by Chemicals or Stress or Illness, people can not repair damage to cells and cancer that is caused by radiation strikes spreads in the Body.

Because of the understanding, the American Cancer Society uses the words, "Increases the Risk of Cancer" as opposed to "causes Cancer."

Please learn the difference. It is the American nuclear industry that tries constantly to delude the American public into believing that Chemicals and Bad air and Bad water and stuff like that causes cancer.

Only two things have been documented to cause cancer in humans. Radiation and Viruses like the Papiloma virus. which causes cervical cancer in women and oral cancer in men who fellate their women.

Republiscams = Republic Scammers = Those who scam the government = Traitors

They are Fat Cat Industrialists, Bankers and Politicians who have taken over our country for the practice of their religion which is the worship of money and the massive accumulation of same by any means possible - Scam, Murder, Fraud, Bribery.

RE: Fluoride cause cancer!
I have an NHS dentist here in the uk for myself and my children, she is an advocate of flouride, happily gives it to her children in toothpaste, because she believes it is good. I do not allow my children to be treated with anything that has flouride in it. They recently had to buy a new product in because i refused to allow them to treat my child with a silicone seal that had flouride in it!.

My Dentist is actually very good and is supportive also, she is also very interested in some of the stuff in relation to dentistry that i have shown her, hopefully she will follow through and decide against treating her children with it.

RE: Fluoride cause cancer!
Here's Consumer Reports weightin in on Mr. Yaiamouiannis, the person quoted in the OP's citation:

"In 1978, Consumer Reports published a two-part series on fluoridation that criticized Yiamouyiannis's work and concluded:

'The simple truth is that there's no "scientific controversy" over the safety of fluoridation. The practice is safe, economical, and beneficial. The survival of this fake controversy represents, in Consumers Union's opinion, one of the major triumphs of quackery over science in our generation '.

A few months later, Yiamouyiannis filed suit for libel, charging that he had been defamed by Consumers Union's report. After a lower court dismissed the suit, Yiamouyiannis appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which upheld the dismissal. The appeals court's ruling, issued in 1980, stated:

'It is clear that [Consumers Union] . . . made a thorough investigation of the facts. Scientific writings and authorities in the field were consulted; authoritative scientific bodies speaking for substantial segments of the medical and scientific community were investigated. The unquestioned methodology of the preparation of the article exemplifies the very highest order of responsible journalism: the entire article was checked and rechecked across a spectrum of knowledge and, where necessary, changes were made in the interests of accuracy'.

Fighting ignorance -- one ignoramus at a time.

A chronology of the use of fluoride and the consequences.

No one should use tooth paste that contains glycerin, as it clings to your teeth and prevents any natural remineralization.

Here's an article on remineralizing you teeth.

Now I am looking for a new one ...

they get a more focused level of propaganda that you don't see under normal circumstances. They call it medical journals, editorials, health recommendation boards, etc.

I use weleda salt toothpaste and oil pulling with extra virgin sesame oil. I haven't gone to the dentist in years and my teeth are bright and strong.
