Mitt Romney has had a tough couple of weeks on the campaign trail -- and it shows in the latest Fox News poll. After a barrage of campaign ads, negative news coverage of his overseas trip and ongoing talk about his tax returns, Romney’s favorable rating and standing in the trial ballot have declined. As a result, President Obama has opened his biggest lead since Romney became the presumptive Republican nominee.

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney's 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.

Yeah I remember when they said Carter was gonna kick Reagan's ass.

Lmao

Jhikpghf Polls conducted before the first candidate debates are meaningless. Obama is going to lose hard.

We can only hope so.

I don't really give two shits who "wins". Just as long as they don't have a drawl or a smarmy good looking guy smile/hair I could care less. They're all just puppets.

Wow, seems strange for FOX to be saying this. I guess they are as unsatisfied with Romney as the rest of America is.

I talked with my most conservative friend yesterday, and he would not commit to Romney, although he said NO WAY will he vote for Obama. The rest of them say they will sit it out.

TPTB The true powers behind the thrones like Jon Huntsman Sr.: 'I Feel Very Badly That Mitt Won't Release His Taxes'

When already it:

Jon Huntsman Sr., longtime Romney backer, calls on him to release tax returns

... in a move that could be significant, Huntsman forcefully called on Romney to release his tax returns. This matters, because Huntsman is a longtime backer of Romney — he has long been close to Romney; he supported his early campaigns; he was the national finance chairman of Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign; and he has raised a lot of money for him over the years...

I feel very badly that Mitt won’t release his taxes and won’t be fair with the American people,” Huntsman told me. In a reference to Romney’s father, who pioneered the release of returns as a presidential candidate, Huntsman said: “I loved George. He always said, pay your taxes for at least 10 or 12 years.”...

Sounds like Huntsman is butthurt about losing the nomination and generating very little support.

Guess what? It is not a requirement to release ANY of your tax returns to run for president. Romney doesn't have to do JACK SQUAT.

If he's smart, he says he will release them when Barry releases his college transcripts from Columbia and allows Hawaii to release his original BC ~ that they continue to refuse to release to the public.

Both candidates are millionaires ~ who gives a shit about their tax returns?

FFS, the Treasury Sec. "forgot" to pay his taxes one year and had no probs getting approved for the job ~~~ so what difference does it make?

Fox wants Barry to be re-elected.

Their ratings & advertising dollars depend on it.

And so do the Republican senators and reps.

They know that if Romney wins, they will be out of a job.

Why?

B/c the senate and house always goes democrat after a republican president, and vice-versa.

Which is why democrats should vote for Romney - but they are too stupid to figure it out.

The president is just a figure-head. A symbol. For the symbol-minded.

Guess what? 1) It is not a requirement to release ANY of your tax returns to run for president. Romney doesn't have to do JACK SQUAT.

2) If he's smart, he says he will release them when Barry releases his college transcripts from Columbia and allows Hawaii to release his original BC ~ 3) that they continue to refuse to release to the public.

4) Both candidates are millionaires ~ who gives a shit about their tax returns?

1) True, “Romney doesn't have to do JACK SQUAT” and ignore a long term tradition of releasing tax returns introduced by his own father. Good; I’m sure that constituent will reward him for that / sarc

2) How could you expect from Obama to release documents that no other US president did so far while pardoning Mitt from a long term tradition of releasing tax returns?

3) Would you like Obama to send the original copy by mail to all of you Birtards so you can touch it, rub it and drool all over it? He can’t; it’s against the Hawai’ian state laws.
