I don't see that really taking off.

Hard to get communities to go in and maintain something like that and as for individuals, the ave cost of those containers is $3,000-$5,000 so it would be cheaper to build a home made greenhouse.

Plus the cost of hydroponics, and the lights...

Expensive proposition....

For a commercial venture it can be very cost effective. Think modular, minimal cost of transportation, automation. Placing the output close to the buyer. Production 24/7/365 not seasonal. 65% plus of the cost of a head of lettuce is transportation.

By the way led lights make it way too expensive at this point in time.
The predominant light source, I have read is flourescent.

Sort of stupid when you take into account how well shit grows above ground in the sunshine.

Lmao

You haven't tried to grow much this year have you??? My cherokee purples are mostly sunburned or mice munched before I get them. The great solar awakening is tough on the crops... I actually agree with you though!

Hydroponics is great for pot and other easy stuff but is limited to specific strains regarding food. Basically lettuce, some cukes, herbs and cherry toms do well. However, the crowd pleasers need the trace minerals and sometimes dryer soil to produce the best flavor. IMHO hydro toms always taste watery. Just ask my DumbFuck neighbor Carl.... he's about to find out another hard lesson in being an asshole! Aren't ya spooky!!
