That is what is left over if the rods have deteriorated and water took it into the Seawater. That black sand is actually Radioactive waste from a ruptured containment vessel and the radioactive particles leaked in to the sea.

All the ingredients have been noted. Strantium, Cesium, Plutonium. That is rod deteriorarion. Instead of it being flung in to the air like Chernobyl, it contaminated seawater. That black sand is radioactive fall out.

St Louis, Missouri: 39X Background Radiation 12 AM June 17

There is an additionally troubling thing about this reading and that is that the jetstream is several hundred miles north of Saint Louis over Minnesota. With a reading of 39X, we would expect the jet stream to be directly overhead.

On a positive news side, we did not notice any elevated airborne radioactivity while we were conducting the sampling process.

Correction Bond, its Strontium, not strantium, and i believe the black sand is referred to as Flea`s

Government ignored U.S. radiation monitoring data in days after 3/11

Even as thousands of residents pondered the implications of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima Prefecture last year, Japanese government officials took little notice of up-to-the-minute high radiation measurements provided by the U.S. Energy Department.

The Energy Department used its Aerial Measuring System (AMS) between March 17 and 19, 2011, and compiled a detailed map of radiation levels on the basis of 40 hours of flight time over Fukushima Prefecture.

The data was provided to Japanese government officials, but not released to the public.

The map clearly shows an area of high radiation levels extending in a northwesterly direction from the crippled Fukushima plant.

Thousands of Fukushima residents living near the plant, unaware of the danger they faced, evacuated in the direction of those high radiation areas.

This is not the first time the Japanese government has been shown to be slow to respond to the unfolding disaster at the Fukushima facility following last year's Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.

The central government also failed to quickly release forecasts of radiation spreading in Fukushima and beyond made by its System for Prediction of Environmental Emergency Dose Information (SPEEDI).

A major difference between the SPEEDI forecast and the Energy Department observations is that the U.S. data concerns actual radiation measurements taken over an area with a radius of about 45 kilometers from the Fukushima No. 1 plant.

The monitoring showed that communities in a northwestern direction from the plant, including Namie and Iitate, had radiation levels exceeding 125 microsieverts per hour over an area as wide as 30 kilometers.

Common double reading.

There was a single quake measuring 6.1 (JMA).

If things are to proceed as what passes for normal here, the gradually increasing numbers of people suffering and dying as a result of Fukushima will find themselves shoved away from the spotlight, and the media will pointedly mention nothing about them unless the news is tweaked so as to divert responsibility from the government (and their sponsors).

Should any sufferers manage to break the media blockade and inform people of some truth then they will be villified and punished in a variety of ways.

The point of this approach by the government is to allow any claims or admissions of responsibility to drag on for as long as possible. This way, large numbers of the afflicted will die. With the claimants dead, the compensation is reduced.

Princess Masako, who is married to the Crown prince is a descendant of a particularly unpleasant character who is responsible for the deaths of countless tens of thousands. Her grandfather was the owner of a company which polluted the rivers and the sea. His company was named Chisso, and he was the chairman.

The name of the disease became known as Minamata disease, and this is because it was first discovered in a place called Minamata, in the prefecture of Kumamoto in Kyushu.

His company poured waste in the form of methylmercury into the rivers, and this was inside shellfish which was eaten by lots of people.

The company existed since the early thirties and continued polluting for three dacades despite lots of evidence that the waste was polluting the water.

I'm not sure if the matter is finally over, but even up until a decade ago there were still claims which hadn't been settled for half a century. Of course the sum paid out in compensation was greatly reduced by the claimants conveniently dying.

There is a monument in Minamata to mark the site where this disease originated. It's a cheap-looking sandwich of glass with water between the panes which is agitated and bubbled. (I bet the tax-payer forked out for that anyway).

I'm just trying to illustrate that the government will do anything to avoid taking responsibility - on Fukushima as well as everything else.

*

With the Minamata disease, at least they didn't send poisoned shellfish all over the country to "share the nation's responsibility and help out."

*

And ln a related note, I was talking with my friend who lives in Osaka. I told him there was a demonstratation outside the PM's house consisting of 11,000 people. He said there was NO news in the media. I'm certain he was disgusted with the media silence and said as a response "Nihon mo dame desu." - Japan's finished. Once a government orchestrates to use the news to obfuscate and lie then what trust can they possibly deserve? I'm sure my friend in Osaka is embarrassed and angry at this obvious CONSPIRACY.

RE: Fukushima Disaster Thread. Rolling Updates
180,000 Bq/m3 of tritium from groundwater of Fukushima plant area

From the priority measurement of radiation, tritium was detected from groundwater at one of the sampling locations.

The first measurement was conducted on 2/21~22/2012, the second one was conducted on 5/24/2012.

Also, it’s in the increasing trend from 2/21~22/2012. The highest reading was 180,000 Bq/m3.

Tepco states it’s still low level for the concentration of notice, which is 60,000,000 Bq/m3 but it’s not announced what this figure is based on.

The location to take the sample is higher than nuclear buildings, Tepco assumes Tritium leaked as evaporated water from the reactors, fell on the ground and sank into underground.

RE: Fukushima Disaster Thread. Rolling Updates
Progress Report - June 18

- The isolated circulating operation of the decontaminant of water treatment facility was started on May 21. At 6:58 AM on June 14, an alarm indicating a "flow rate balance abnormality" went off. As a worker of our cooperative company checked the monitoring camera and suspected a possibility of water leak, the isolated cycle operation of the apparatus was suspended at 8:14 AM on the same day. Upon site investigation, water leak was found on the dam floor at 12:20 PM. The leak had already been stopped at the time of the investigation, and it was confirmed that the leaked water did not flow out of the dam. (The amount of the leaked water is estimated to be approx. 3m3.) The nuclides analysis result of the leaked water is as follows.

γ nuclides total density: 4.8x102Bq/cm3
Cs-134:1.8x102Bq/cm3
Cs-137:2.6x102Bq/cm3

The leaked water is assumed to have come from the coagulation-sedimentation equipment of the decontamination apparatus. As a result of site investigation on June 15, it is assumed that the leaking part is the interspace of the piping penetration hole on the top side of waste liquid strage tank. And also it is assumed that the water of the tank flowed out, since the water did not flow downstream by shutting down the flow regulating valve of downstream pipes due to instantaneous descent of the level meter of the tank and inflow from upper stream was continued. The integrity verification was conducted on the same day, and the problem was confirmed. The level meter has been decided to be fixed.

- At 10:00 AM on June 18, we started transferring the accumulated water in Unit 6 Turbine Building basement to the temporary tank.

- At 9:54 AM on June 18, Unit 5 Equipment Cooling Seawater System was stopped due to the fix of the strainer drive from June 18 to June 28. Since Spent Fuel Pool cooling system was stopped, cooling at Spent Fuel Pool will be conducted by the residual heat removal system during this period. Cooling of reactor and Spent Fuel Pool will be conducted by the residual heat removal system in alternate shifts. It is estimated that the water temperature will be approx. 60°C (Max.) at reactor, and 31°C (Max.) at Spent Fuel Pool. There is no problem with the temperature control.

- At 9:00 AM on June 18, a worker found the oil leakage from the hydraulic part of the backhoe arm which was used at the civil engineering work (breaking the concrete pavement) near the water intake equipment. The amount of the leaked oil is estimated to be approx. 1 - 2 liter, and leakage was stopped. As for the leaked oil, some was penetrated into the ground, but we wiped it as possible. We reported it to Tomioka fire department at around 10:40 AM on the same day. As a result of the verification at 12:30 PM on the same day by the fire department, it was judged that it was not a leakage from a hazardous material facility. We will investigate the cause.

Progres Report - June 19

- At 10:00 AM on June 18, we started transferring the accumulated water in Unit 6 Turbine Building basement to the temporary tank. At 4:00 PM on the same day, we finished the transferring. At 10:00 AM on June 19, we restarted the transferring.

- At 4:01 AM on May 27, an alarm indicating abnormality in Unit 3 spent fuel pool desalination system went off, and the system was automatically stopped. Upon investigation, there was no water leak caused by this and the spent fuel pool cooling system is in operation. We're currently investing the cause. As we confirmed that the cause was a problem in the electrodialyzer, the isolated operation of RO unit was restarted by removing the electrodialyzer at 4:10 PM on May 28. As a result of investigation, we confirmed that the desalting facility had been stopped due to the descent in anode solution flow in the electrodialyzer. We investigated the cause of the descent in the flow in the anode side, the cause was identifiend that the obstruction in anode solution flow channel by the deposition. We assumed that the cause of the deposition was the decline in performance at the fileter of the electrodialyzer, and we conducted the cleaning of the deposition. We started the test operation of the desalting facility including the electrodialyzer on June 15, we confirmed that there was no problem in the operation. At 12:00 PM on June 19, the operation was restarted accordingly.

- At 10:30 AM on June 19, a worker from cooperative company who worked at Unit 4 Reactor Building covering work was injured by getting his fingers caught. The worker had an examination in Unit 5 and 6 emergency medical office, and the injury state were the contusion of left hand (middle finger and fourth finger) and laceration of right hand (index finger, middle finger, fourth finger and fifth finger). Since it was judged to need the emergency medical transport, the ambulance was called at 11:30 AM. After the emergency treatment such as washing and disinfection in Unit 5 and 6 emergency medical office, he was taken to J-villege at 12:10 PM. At 12:51 PM, the worker was transported to Iwaki Kyoritsu General Hospital. The medical examination and treatment by doctor is conducted currently. We confirmed that no radioactive material was found to be attached to the worker's body.

- A worker of TEPCO found the damages (8 places) on the PCV gas control system piping near the feed-water heating room entrance at Unit 3 Turbine Building 1st floor, and confirmed that the sounds was came from that part. At 2:40 PM, that place was kept at negative pressure, and we confirmed that the endohedral gas did not leak from the pipes. There was no change at Unit 3 PCV pressure, PCV hydrogen concentration and the exhaust gas flow rate at PCV gas control system. We will fix them by tapes as a temporary treatment.
