Girl, 9, mistaken for skunk is shot
October 20, 2012
A 9-year-old mistaken for a skunk was shot earlier this evening in Beaver County.

County dispatch confirmed a shooting incident took place at about 8 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of Brewer Road in New Sewickley.

According to the Beaver County Times, the girl was shot during a Halloween party by a relative who thought she was a skunk. The girl, who was not identified, was wearing a black costume with a black hat and white tassel when the family member mistook her for a skunk and shot her in the shoulder.

The girl was flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Her condition was not immediately released.

Sorry to hear that, hope she heals fully.
Now for the relative that did it:
Shooting at a defenceless skunk, how could you.
Yeah lets give every idiot a gun, great plan.

Yeah, that's totally what you do when you see a skunk: shoot it.

What a fucktard.

RE: Girl, 9, mistaken for skunk is shot
Homeowners can have legitimate reasons for shooting skunks. Skunks can be troublesome pests and in our area they very frequently carry rabies. At one time every skunk in our neighborhood I used to live in were trapped and found to have rabies! I am not a skunk-shooter, even though they frequently come through the property, but I do understand whey they are killed.

The problem is a near-sighted and careless person who like any hunter in the woods needs to have a beyond-the-shadow-of-a-doubt positive identification of the target before blazing away.

It's pretty easy to see the difference between a nine year old human child dressed in black and a bit of white, and a small, cat-sized animal with striking black and white warning colors.

The shooter needs to be cited.

Keep your HP magic wand in your cloak. The girl could have just as easily been hit by a car, dressed up in black and out at night. It happens every Halloween. Both cars and guns are dangerous in careless hands.

Guns serve a purpose, especially in areas where predators and vermin cause trouble, two and four-legged alike.

I have never shot a skunk. They are for the most part harmless little critters. I have shot Raccoons however. Ones that were foaming at the mouth and growling. Unless an animal is acting rabid or vicious leave it alone.

No doubt.. I got a HUGE ass skunk messing with my trash right now... Since I have very close neighbors, and of course the possibility of smell, I havent tried to shoot or trap it yet... Not sure WHAT to do about it yet, but its causing major problems for all of us here...

As for the dude that shot the little girl, I hope her daddy stomped the CRAP out of the idiot...
