Id pin the popularity of Chrome on the fact that most people do not read the EULA when installing new software and happily click on through saying yes to everything. Chrome is bundled with a shit ton of software.

You can speak into Chrome and it will understand! People don't know how amazing that is. The doctors would use Dragon Naturally Speaking to do the same thing when transcribing. Dragon worked well but it was expensive and a 3.5gig install. It's now available in a browser for free. To me that is amazing. Chrome also has a great translator built in. Not to mention all the apps that you can add in. One of my favsx is the exit viewer, YouTube downloader and Chrome-to-Phone.

Thats great and all they ask is you forgo your privacy. Back when google first started people knew what lay ahead, they were evil then and they are evil now. No one can possibly buy into the whole, they are doing it to better serve us, BS anymore.

Imagine going to your favorite restaurant and them asking you, rather vaguely, if they can search your texts messages to see what kind of food you talk about most. Its kinda like that times 1 with 100 zeroes following it (perhaps you will understand the last part, perhaps not).

If you're concerned about data mining just don't sign-in. It's as simple as that.

It's not a matter of signing in or not. They trace and track your IP!

It is by no means that simple. Get rid of Chrome and check your services, also check firefox addons after removing it, if you have FF installed. Whether you sign in or not data is being mined, it isnt hard to put the IP's of your login together with your general surfing results, while not logged in. People should be much more concerned than they are as you have no say in how the data is used. I dont look at illegal shit but at the same time i dont want anyone tracking my web usage, it is no ones business but mine.

I think your barking up the wrong tree. Your browser is not your enemy. Did you know the police can view all your email once it's three years old? That's if they do things legally but a recent survey shows widespread snooping by your local police.

hehe = a google of gaggles...

pre 1900 statistical analysis was rather dimly viewed as somewhat of a threat to manufacturing... especially as it would indicate the true level of "quality" available in a product.

how many standard deviations are you standing "outside of the norm" anyway.

if you are worried about it, the sheep standing outside the flock , get eaten by the wolves.

so, my linux just asked to do another point update on v18 of the googleplex.

was that for my security or theirs?

;)

I am reminded of a passage in The crying of lot 49

wherein: a guy is trying to receive some sensitive Mail, in an "off the grid" sort of way. The story is set some 40 years ago.

read the book of you care about the secret mail war...

If you don't like chrome, use chromium or one of the forks...

If you have leaks, better get off that SS/OS first...

think of little dutch boys. chuckle

Quote: The assumption was false. After a week of anxiously watching the mailbox through little Japanese binoculars his wife had given him for a going-away present (she'd left him the day after he was pink-slipped) and getting nothing but sucker-list stuff through the regular deliveries that came each noon, he was jolted out of a boozy, black-and-white dream of jumping off The Stack into rush-hour traffic, by an insistent banging at the door. It was late on a Sunday afternoon. He opened his door and found an aged bum with a knitted watch cap on his head and a hook for a hand, who presented him with a bundle of letters and loped away without a word.

I should also mention your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is required by law to track all your history and save it for a number of years in case the "authorities" want to browse your history sometime in the future. All that data logging has no effect on what browser you use.
